Abortion is an intensely personal experience with long lasting physical and emotional consequences. This short presentation is a brief summary of the research conducted to explore the different aspects of the subject matter. Ralph et al. (2019) set out to establish the physical health impacts of abortion on women who had sought abortion services but later changed their minds and those who had an abortion in either their first or second trimester. The results of the study indicate 27% of the women who gave birth experienced poor health, which was contrasted by 20% and 21% of women who had an abortion in the first and second trimesters, respectively.

Giving birth or terminating the pregnancy also has emotional impacts. Shoorab (2019) set out to study women’s experiences in their recovery from the pineal trauma of childbirth. The results indicated that the women largely regained possession of their lives while feeling trapped by a wide range of issues. Though research indicates that the emotional recovery time is two years after delivery, this timeline is culturally sensitive. However, the study sample used by Shoorab (2019) did not include women who underwent induced abortion and its impacts on subsequent pregnancies. However, Holmlund et al. (2016) documented the physical and emotional impacts. In a study to impact of induced abortion on women’s psychological and physical wellbeing, Holmlund et al. (2016) conducted a research study that discovered that these women had higher rates of becoming obese and engaging in smoking. Furthermore, the women lost interest in subsequent pregnancies.

While these women performed the abortion under medical supervision, there are others who induce abortion by using toxic substances, ingesting herbs and plants, physical trauma, and drug abuse. Moseson et al. (2020) discovered that they largely felt relieved, grateful, fearful, and even comforted. Overall, documented research indicates the presence of numerous physical and emotional consequences of carrying a pregnancy to term or terminating it in one of the trimesters.
