As an eight-year veteran police officer, the conduct displayed by the police officer is unacceptable. His actions of threatening to do a search on the vehicle for the sole reason that he claims someone in the car directed profane utterances towards him is uncalled for. It is not only his actions that are not acceptable, but his language when speaking to the teenage boy is high and uncalm to a large extent (FOX 5 Atlanta, 2016). The aftermath of the incident saw the police officer fired, regardless of his efforts to defend himself. One of the reasons that the police gave to defend himself was that the driver did not adhere to traffic rules by driving out of the white lines. However, his argument did not hold as he had three other pending charges on account of his arrogance.
The decision by the police department to fire officer Sanders will improve the relationship between the police and the community at large. The citizens will have a sense of peace and calmness when an officer approaches them because they know they will not be harassed, threatened or searched without legit reasons. The above will also act as an example to other police officers who do not adhere to the rules and standards required (Johnson, 2004).
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
In conclusion, the decision made to fire the police officer was the best to undertake in light of what transpired. However, this does not solve the issue of police misconduct in its entirety. The community needs law enforcers who are not abusive and aggressive. When the officers are abusive, fear and hate are likely to be directed to them by civilians. Firing just one police officer solves one case, while in reality, police misconduct is eminent in various states. Enforcing strict rules against such behavior as well as sensitizing police of the need to always act by the laws of the state they serve is likely to help in the prevention of such habits by the police force at large.
