Policy Interests and Committees of Interest –A Summary
Senator Sherrod Brown is known for his persistent fight against many trade and tax policies that adversely impact workers in the state of Ohio. He is stern in fighting for more jobs and the well-being of workers in Ohio Companies. Something that stands out is his distaste for Wall Street greed. Currently Senator Sherrod Brown serves as a member of the Committee of Veteran Affairs, the committee of ethics, and as a ranking member in the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee.

Senator Robert Portman like his counterpart in the Ohio Senate has vested interest in jobs for Ohioans and has openly supported free trade policies. He is a leader in advocacy issues and has sponsored many such legislations including the Protecting Faith-Based and Nonprofit Organizations from 2019’s Terrorism Act and the EMPOWER Care Act. He serves in the Senate Finance Committee and has assignments in the subcommittee of taxation and IRS oversight; he chairs the subcommittee for the subcommittee on Social Security, Pensions, and Family Policy. He is a ranking member in the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs where he chairs the permanent subcommittee on investigations. Finally, he is a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and serves in 4 of the subcommittees.
A standout factor for Congressman Steve Stivers is his interests in anti-harassment and anti-discrimination policies in governance and workplaces and has also been at the forefront in the promotion of Congressional Accountability. He has also shown interest in policies to improve the welfare of children in the admirable foster system. “He is currently serving in the financial services committee which oversees banking, insurance, real estate, and housing” (DeNatale, 2021).
Senator Tim Schaffer is widely known for his promotion of accountability and anti-corruption policies. Additionally, he has fought for the rights of workers by ensuring state labor policies promote the well-being of every worker in Ohio's 20th Senatorial district. He is currently the chair of Ohio's Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, and the chair of Ohio's Chair of senate ways and means Committee. He is a member of the following committees Public Utilities, Agriculture and Rural Development (House), as well as the General Government and Agency Review (Senate). Brian Stewart was recently elected as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives. Representative Stewart during his tenor as chairman of the Ashville Town council, showed great interest in trade and finance policies affecting Ashville Township; a feat he wishes to continue in his current position as house representative of the 78th district. He currently does not serve in any committees or subcommittees
Part 2
The specific health policy area that I am interested in concerns policies that have an impact on nurse practitioners' scope of practice. The scope of practice policy affects three chief areas, that is, defining NP's practice authority, prescriptive authority, and identification of nurse practitioners as primary care providers. This area is vital in ensuring the nurse's fundamental roles in healthcare is assured and remains unencumbered. The legislator best positioned to guarantee the efficacy of the scope of practice policy is Congressman Steve Stivers. The chief reason why I selected him is firstly due to ease of access to his office, and also his vehement fight against discrimination and harassment for workers. He is famed for even going against party lines and voting for the impeachment of the then president, Donald Trump which shows he has high integrity and is willing to fight what is right (DeNatale, 2021).
