Introduction
This paper analyzes two different types of survey (political and economic) with the goal of looking into quantitative methods and analysis. It will then discuss the presented surveys and argue the most valid of the two.
Political Survey
The chosen political survey is titled Public’s 2019 Priorities: Economy, Health Care, Education and Security All Near Top of List. It is now headed towards the end of Donald Trump’s third year as the president of the United States, and the public’s to-do list for him spans the domains of health care costs, terrorism, economy, and education. While the public’s agenda to Trump and the Congress is slightly different from a year ago, it is a reflection of the continued evolution within the national agenda.

The highest priority by the public remains to be improving the economy, with a 70% priority vote. However, it prominence has significantly declined over the past few years.in 2011, the economy had taken an 87% priority because this was the time right after the Great Recession. The public ratings regarding the employment situation have also increasingly become positive, with 50% of the respondents stating that the job situation should be given top priority. In the past ten years, majority indicated that jobs were a top priority, and this includes the 84% in 2011 and the 68% in 2017 ("Public's 2019 Priorities: Economy, Health Care, Education and Security All Near Top of List", 2019) . The prominence has seen a continued decline.
A large number of respondents (67%) continue to indicate that proper defence for the country against terrorist attacks remain to be a top priority. However, this remains to be one of the lowest issues of concern since the September 11 terrorist attack. As security and economic issues have declined in prominence, domestic issues such as improving the educational system (68% top priority) and reducing health care costs (69%) are now becoming increasingly up voted as matters of concern. About tw0o-thirds of the population say that the current top priorities for the country should be Medicare and Social Security (both at 67%).
An issue of least concern for the public is decreasing the budget deficit, with only 48% stating that this should be a top priority for the government. The concern over budget deficit has gone down a great deal, where 72% of the public (65% of the Democrats and (81% of the Republicans) had claimed that this should be a top priority in 2013.
This survey was conducted among 1,505 adults in Jan. 9-14, and it found that the Democrats and Republicans have completely different priorities when it comes to the issues of concern in the country. The survey goes on to discuss the difference between the statistical votes made by the Democrats and Republicans on different issues. While no party is rated favourably by more than half of the respondents, the Democratic Party still has a slightly higher favourability ratings compared to the Republican Party ("Public's 2019 Priorities: Economy, Health Care, Education and Security All Near Top of List", 2019).
Environmental Survey
Kristen Bialik conducted a survey in 2016, titled Most Americans favor stricter environmental laws and regulations (Bialik, 2016). From to this Pew Research Center survey, it is evident that most Americans claim that environmental regulations are ‘worth the cost,’ instead of stating that these regulations come with extreme pricing. A majority of the U.S. adults (59%) who took part in the survey stated that stricter environmental rules and regulations are completely worth the cost, in comparison with the 34% (roughly a third) who claimed that such regulations hut the economy and cost too many jobs. This survey was conducted from 30 th November through 5 th December 2016.
Both age and education level are associated with how these environmental regulations are perceived. Younger adults who have more education have a higher likelihood to state that stricter environmental laws are worth the cost compared to older adults and individuals with less education. These opinions are also varied when it comes to party lines. Nearly eight out of ten Democrats (78%) consider the stricter environmental laws as being worth the cost while a majority of the Republican-inclined respondents (58%) claim that these economic regulations hurt the economy and cost people their jobs. Similar partisan divided are observed in Pew Research Center survey studies on climate changes.
While the majority of the U.S. respondents are in favor of the stricter environmental regulations, these views are also variant from one state to another (Bialik, 2016) . Individuals living in states that have a relatively high per capita income and those living in states that voted Barack Obama in for his second term are more likely to be in support of the stricter laws in comparison to individuals living in states with Republican voting patterns and lower per-capita incomes.
Overview
In this essay, we have looked at two surveys, a political one ("Public's 2019 Priorities: Economy, Health Care, Education and Security All Near Top of List", 2019) and an economic one (Bialik, 2016). The political survey was conducted on 1,505 respondents, and this is a relatively high number that is likely to give a general overview and representation of the entire population. However, when it comes to the economic survey, (Bialik, 2016) fails to indicate the total number of respondents that were involved in the survey. It is impressive that both surveys have gone into the details of the statistics that are involved in the responses, providing a clear distinction from one different group to another. It is, therefore, possible for a person analyzing these responses to have a clear picture of the mind-set of the respondents. However, according to (NBRI, 2019) it is important for any survey to indicate the number of respondents involved for the study to be considered valid. That said, the political survey is the most valid in this case because it has indicated that there are 1,505 respondents.
Conclusion
It is important for a survey to go into the details of analyzing the statistics of the received responses. However, the survey is only considered valid if it indicates the number of respondents involved (and this should be appropriate to give a representation of the entire population.
