America has a vast transportation network. The industry is currently facing various challenges due to coronavirus pandemic. While presidential candidate, Trump and Biden have extensively discussed on topics such as racism, healthcare and coronavirus, they have not comprehensively talked about their plans for the aviation industry. In 2016 elections, Trump plans focused on developing vital infrastructure, including the aviation industry (Büyüközkan, Havle & Feyzioğlu, 2020). However, he performed dismally and showed little sign of investments in the aviation industry. President Trump initial aviation proposal in the first election was to privatize the air traffic control system of the America. He wanted to give the air traffic control operations to the control of non-governmental authority.

This plan was to reduce delays, enhance the safety records of the industry and accelerate investments. However, this plan was rejected by democrats and eventually failed. During his reign as the president, his administration issued an executive order, notably known as the Muslim ban. The executive order created various issues in the aviation industry, promoting confusion and uncertainty in the US. This order made airlines such as Etihad and Emirates to make adjustments to their staff and was forced to change their cabin crew and pilots that came from the seven banned Muslim majority countries. In 2020, the government of Trump allocated about 25 dollars via CARES Act to prevent retrenchment of aviation industry ( Al-Momani et al., 2020 ). In his campaign, he promised to provide a further 25 billion dollars to help the United States airports and airlines.

On the other hand, Biden did not center his campaign on the aviation industry. Instead he concentrated on rebuilding the aviation industry while minimizing greenhouse gas emissions. His plan sought to transform the modes of aviation industry and energy sources that power them. To accomplish zero-emission by 2050, Biden promised to finance low-carbon development by investing more than 400 billion dollars in the clean energy innovation ( Ilaria, 2020 ). The 400 billion dollars investments will aid to decrease biofuels cost, heighten energy density and develop engines that can power long haul planes and work hand in hand with the International Civil Aviation Organization to distribute technologies in various parts of the country. Biden also promised Americans to enhance airports by adding more funds via the FAA enhancement program to offer funds to various organizations for airport developments ( Durgan et al., 2020 ). In his plans, Biden also promised to keep the aviation industry secure and safe by collaborating the FAA to execute its technology to enhance safety. He promised to maintain a safe aviation system by promoting engineering excellence. He also promised to increase physical security measures to increase security in airports. To become more technologically sophisticated, airports should invest in proper physical security measures needed to maintain passengers safe at all. In his plan, Biden’s seeks to improve aviation transportation to give Americans the flexibility and freedoms to travel across the country.

As much as President Donald Trump plan aimed to help the ailing aviation industry, Biden’s plan is more effective than that of plan. Because greenhouse gases are the root cause of various environmental problems, Biden wants to eradicate it so that Americans can have a greener and sustainable aviation industry. His plans in the aviation industry will improve the safety of the industry. Therefore, Biden’s plan will help the aviation industry for a long time while Trump’s plans are short term. As much as Biden’s plans are sustainable, his plans should include coordination changes so that Americans can understand them and concisely implement them.
