The genesis of the NTSB started after an executive order on 1st April 1967. NTSB was created through the Department of Transportation Act of 1966 (Air Transportation: Regulators and Associations). In case of a major accident, the NTSB investigates the accident for 7 to 10 days using the go-team. The go-team is a board personnel group that use their broad range of accident investigation skills. The team also used the support of the NTSB laboratory to support the process. Then the board gives safety recommendations such as the DOT requiring collections and report of flown hours and movement data, develop education products to eliminate unsaf practices, and improving the conspicuity of holding positions for runways. . The congress requires the DOT to respond to each board recommendation within 90 days. A public hearing is another step of a major accident investigation.
