A myriad of psychological fields have been subjected to prevalent myths and misconceptions about various psychological conditions and phenomena ( Lilienfeld et al., 2011) . The survey items explore the prevalence of theses myths and whether individuals in society are susceptible to fall victim to the spread of false truths about psychological conditions ( Lilienfeld et al., 2011) . The survey items include memory, consciousness, personality, mental illness and finally, social psychology ( Lilienfeld et al., 2011) . Research has revealed that these areas are among those that are the most affected by myths and misconceptions in the society.
Underlying theory behind the survey design
The study adopted the Likert scale of measurement to measure the prevalence of the falsified concepts of psychology among the members of society ( Nemoto et al., 2014) . Given the nature of the study, the Likert scale is ideal as it can adequately measure the attitude of individuals towards different statements about conditions and phenomenon that are existent in the society ( Nemoto et al., 2014) . Additionally, the structure of the survey makes it easy to compile data, analyze and interpret the results of the study in an organized manner.
Separate factors
The separate factors that have been addressed by the survey pertain to the areas of learning and contemporary psychology that have been most affected by the myths and misconceptions that exist on a myriad of psychological issues ( Lilienfeld et al., 2011) . The factors encompassed in the items include memory, consciousness, personality, mental illness and social psychology ( Lilienfeld et al., 2011) . These factors define regular and daily human interaction, and are therefore subject to being barraged by various misconceptions that seek to define what is not understood by humans in addition to false facts.

Getting professional opinions and suggestions is important given the fact that gives the concepts and ideas validity in addition to offering more information and insight on how matters would be improved. Consultation with a colleague highlighted the relevance and need for focus on intelligence and learning and the misconceptions that exist in this field. One such belief that would be included in the survey is that negative reinforcement is a method that teachers use to punish their students.

Ethical Considerations
For any research to be carried out, it is vital to ensure that an informed consent is acquired from the research participants to ensure that the results are valid and reliable in future studies and research endeavors ( Ponterott, 2010) . Furthermore, another ethical consideration for the survey is the security of the data given the sensitive nature of the information that has been recorded in the survey questionnaire.
