Population density refers to the measurement of a population in a given area by dividing the number of individuals by the area. The number of people is always quoted per square kilometer. New York is one of the most densely populated cities in the world. The high population of people in New York City has a direct impact on the environment. This paper aims at discussing the population density in New York City and how it affects the environment.

Gasoline consumption in New York City is high because many people travel using vehicles that emit carbon into the atmosphere leading to climate change (NASA, 2021). The emission of greenhouse gases affects the environment because it causes extreme weather conditions such as wildfires, severe drought, tropical storms, and heat waves. The high population in New York City also affects the environment as it makes it difficult to manage waste disposal. There is ecological stress to the ecosystem in New York City, caused by direct emissions from the atmosphere, highway network, and urban run-off. The land is destroyed for building purposes due to the high demand for housing. The high population in New York City impacts the environment as it leads to the depletion of natural resources such as fresh water and fossil fuels.

Many restaurants are serving the high population of New York City. Food waste from these restaurants is always dumped in landfill, leading to the production of methane gas harmful to the environment. Perfluorooctanoic acid and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid, which are found in fast-food wrappers, cookware, cosmetics, and nonstick, also affect New York City's climate.

To conclude, the population in New York City is negatively affecting the environment. The measure should be put in place to ensure that everybody takes part in protecting the environment. A clean environment is vital because it provides safe living conditions for human beings. Pollution in the air can lead to severe diseases such as asthma.
