In positive psychology, resilience is referred to as an ability to cope with the actions and negativities that life gives to an individual. There are individuals in the society who have no stamina, and when they are faced with challenges, they end up being knocked down. However, the determinate is on how they rise steadfast from the trials and learn about the negativities that have affected them in life. People who are faced with challenges and rise above these challenges are referred to as resilient individuals. A vital point to note is that resilient individuals work through any obstacles through using mechanisms such as personal resources, provision of strengths, and focus on positive capabilities. An example of positive psychological capital includes concentrating on aspects like optimism, hope, and self-efficacy. Overcoming challenges and crises by focusing on resilience is described as a process of bouncing back, which is getting back to normal functioning. In the end, having resistance in an individual is an association directly related to happiness. 

Positive Psychology is an example of a psychological approach that aims at emphasizing skills and also promoting cognitive functioning among humans in society. Positive psychology helps in explaining processes to use in achieving physical and emotional health. According to Martin Seligman, psychology is vital and had to study different human qualities as opposed to focusing on only the illness of individuals or weaknesses exhibited by humans in society. Clinical psychology had a focus on mental illness, which led to an understanding of how to apply different strategies and reduce signs and symptoms that are brought about by psychiatric disorders. Wood and Tarrier notes that before the onset of positive psychology, there were negative aspects of life which were considered by psychologists (Day, 2014). Still, positive aspects of human life were continually being disregarded. An interesting extract from the discussion of the authors is that they do not suggest the studying of positive psychology and social functioning as separate from the psychological branch, which is clinical psychology. It is clinical psychology that transformed and became an example of an integrative discipline acknowledging the facts of positive psychology.

Researchers, Seligman, Steen, and Peterson, emphasizes the fact that [positive psychology studies positive emotions as well as individual strengths of human beings. Furthermore, positive psychology studies on positive institutions (Sánchez-Beltrán, Ramos del Río, Velasco & Figueroa López, 2019).). These are the institutions that allow humans to experience an ambient environment for positive growth and be in a position to express their positive emotions as a family. In the long run, these processes will help in enhancing positive mental health and promoting individual wellbeing. Extending the positive emotions solidly in the life of patients is regarded as a primary goal in positive psychology (Cooper, Wang, Bartram & Cooke, 2019). Positive emotions include gratitude, issues of serenity, joy, inspiration, hope and love. These aspects play central roles when it comes to treatment and they can also help in protecting patients from cases of stress or depression. Positive psychology, therefore, has an impact on the wellbeing of humans in society. When patients exhibit positive psychology, they will be able to overcome the adversities that they face as well as rise over any challenges that they face in society. 

Self-determination theory in positive psychology and resilience 

In my opinion, the researcher indicates that some individuals have a greater tendency when it comes to using positive emotions and managing issues such as stress or depression in their lives. Findings suggest that there is an individual difference seen on people’s ability to cognitively represent their emotions when they are faced with stressful situations. Further, research evidence conducted from recent studies suggests that more excellent emotional knowledge, such as the cases when it comes to distinguishing the negative emotions, was associated with the presence of high-level emotion regulation strategies. The research findings indicate that an individual’s ability to use emotional knowledge results in positive effects on emotion regulations (Cooper, Wang, Bartram & Cooke, 2019). Having knowledge as well as effective use of positive emotion is something that causes advantages in coping processes of individuals (Sánchez-Beltrán, Ramos del Río, Velasco & Figueroa López, 2019). Hence, understanding positive psychology and resilience through these discussion lines, then emotional intelligence is the ability to use in monitoring an individual’s emotion as well as the feelings of other people in society. Individual differences are in existence when dealing with the capacity to process different pieces of information and use the information towards advantageous coping mechanisms in one’s life (Liu, Cooper & Y. Tarba, 2019). Emotional intelligence, therefore, plays a vital role in the lives of resilient people when they are bouncing back from adverse effects in their lives. 

What distinguishes between a high and low resilient individual is the capacity of the individual to learn from the setbacks that they have faced in life. If one learns quickly from the harmful effects in their lives, there is a high possibility that the individual will bounce back towards positive lines, happiness, and wellbeing. It is the knowledge extracted from these experiences that the individuals use in coping with their negative emotions. The evidence indicates that positive emotions produce beneficial outcomes when dealing with robust coping processes. Hence, it is worth highlighting that specific individuals have high emotional knowledge as opposed to other members of society (Liu, Cooper & Y. Tarba, 2019). The high levels of emotion knowledge have a direct relation to developing positive emotions during stressful times. It is what high-level resilient individuals use to their advantage and achieves success in the long run. Psychologically positive individuals are characterized as members who have a high level of emotional intelligence, making them highly resilient in their lives. 

Broaden and build theory 

The Broaden and Build theory indicates that there are positive emotions that are used in increasing an individual’s thought, the actions as well as repertoire. The process is what helps in building the individual’s resources. The theory was applied as a framework used in understanding the different constructs that are found among physiologically resilient individuals. Some benefits arise from using positive emotions towards fueling the psychological resilience of individuals who are to achieve efficient emotion regulations. These are demonstrated by the accelerated cardiovascular recovery from the effects of negative arousal. The second benefit is that the process helps in finding positive meanings that are originating from negative consequences (Cooper, Wang, Bartram & Cooke, 2019). From the theory, what is essential is the fact that perceiving threats in negative aspects have the capability of developing adaptive benefits. When the risks are occurring in prolonged periods, then there is a negative appraisal style that can cause deleterious effects in humans that is in their psychological and physical wellbeing. The broaden and build theory explains that the experiences of emotions that occur during difficult times, such as when an individual is facing stress cause an individual to strive and pursue novelty as well as creative thoughts. These actions cause an individual to develop a considerable amount of effective mechanisms that they can use in coping mechanisms, which will act as a buffer against adverse emotional experiences. 

Positive psychology applied to the Education sector 

In the education sector, the school principals re required to cope with the different stressors that emerge from the external environment when they are fighting to get an emotional equilibrium among the students. Principles are figureheads as well as leaders in the educational institutions, and they have to play the role model perspectives to the learners in the institution. Research findings indicate that the major concerns that are affecting principals in institutions are the desire to maintain a positive climate. Positive environmental-climate results in the creation of success and effectiveness in the school. Unfortunately, the principals are seen to regularly compromise or avoid prioritizing their health and wellbeing. The Principles have constant worries with regards to the repercussions that the decisions, as well as actions that they undertake, will challenge job satisfaction in the school environment (Sánchez-Beltrán, Ramos del Río, Velasco & Figueroa López, 2019). The constant prioritization of other people’s needs over an individual need is a challenge that results in stress and mental health issues among the principals. Application of positive psychology can help in overcoming these challenges and maintaining healthy wellbeing for the principals in the education system. Positive psychology, in this essence, includes dealing with hope and hard work, which will make the principals emerge as winners in the education institution. 

Conclusion 

Positive psychology has an influence on resilience, making individuals become resilient members of society. Having positive psychology results in the creation of positive emotions, which can help in undoing the negative emotions among individuals. Being resilient means that an individual will have the ability to bounce back from negative issues and start expressing positive outcomes in their lives hence promoting wellbeing. Having positive psychology and emotions are vital in an individual as they6 broaden cognition and help individuals to accept more comprehensive ranges of behaviors. Positive psychology teaches individuals to identify their strengths and weaknesses. Thus, the individuals will focus on their strengths and strive to bounce back from the negativities that they have faced in their lives. It gives individuals hope that they can overcome adverse effects and be successful in their work activities and life. Positive psychology, therefore, is argued to bring about positive impacts that propel individuals to be resilient.
