The problem of poverty is a major issue in the United States where 15% of the population lives below the poverty line (Zastrow, 2016). There are huge wealth gaps between the poor and the rich in the country and there is minimal social mobility. Poverty is caused by a range of factors ranging from social problems to other factors that see the poor unable to eradicate poverty in their social settings. Therefore coming up with various strategies of eradicating poverty is of utmost importance. Various proposed income maintenance programs are created in an effort of eradicating poverty in the society. These strategies include; 

Coming up with social insurance programs where citizens can access various programs that help them get mitigate the effects of poverty and thus be able to cater for their medical needs and other services. This is to enhance healthy population.

Creating a family allowance system where the government pays the families a set amount of money based on the number of children that the family has ((Zastrow, 2016). This will help in raising some burdens over the parents and thus eliminating poverty especially when the payments are large enough. 

On the other hand, it is noted that people with less education are likely to be the amongst the poor people in the society, therefore, investing in education would be a great strategy of ensuring that people have the prerequisite knowledge that is needed for eradicating poverty and also assisting parents to pay for their children's education (Cochran, 2008). 

Expanding Medicaid through the provision of affordable care for millions of Americans as well as the elderly and people with high poverty levels (Glasmeier, 2002). This will help in minimizing the household expenditure making it to be channeled into other basic needs such as paying rent and paying for food. 

Finally, the government must create job opportunities which are well paying and thus help in boosting the employment levels of the populations in the country (Watt, 2000). Rebuilding infrastructure and developing renewable energy sources is one of the ways that the government can ensure that job opportunities are created and the national unemployment rates are subsidized.
