A career in Law Enforcement has always been a part of my destiny for even the work experience I have gained since high school points in the same direction. Being a pretrial service officer as I hope to be, includes responsibilities gathering and verifying information on defendants. Other duties include supervising defendants released on bond, maintaining updated case records, court notification of bond violations and communication with other organizations related to a case. Knowledge required for this job includes correct written and spoken business English, computer skills, office practices, dealing with people from different backgrounds, and Judicial procedures. The job also requires a certain set of skills such as research, information compilation, record keeping, teamwork, discretion and prudence, work under pressure and deadlines. I believe that my experiences, knowledge and skill set would be a great fit for a Pretrial service officer job.
I joined the military after high school. During my time in the military, I was equipped with a set of knowledge and skills like communication, technical, problem-solving, planning, teamwork, flexibility and, integrity. Later on, I joined JP Morgan Chase as a part-time bank teller as I started college. As a bank teller, my duties included the provision of account services like deposits and withdrawals to customers. I answered customer’s questions, recorded transactions, reconciled cash drawers and, loans and maintained cash supply. I also maintained the confidence of customers and that of the bank. These responsibilities enabled me to gain and enhance my skills in communication, thoroughness, documentation and, attention to detail. I was able to improve my customer service skills and integrity.

In eight months, I was promoted to lead vault of operation and a year later to a personal banker. I had to resign a little later own as my school schedule got tighter. As a personal banker, my duties shifted to client account management, sale, and representation of bank services. I also engaged in the recommendation of products, client referrals to in-house financial experts if deemed necessary, document preparation and account verification if requested by the client. I even performed administrative responsibilities, e.g. data entry and resolved client complaints. All these duties enabled me to sharpen the skills I already possessed, and also added new skills such as negotiation, multi-tasking, sales, and time-management.
I have recently received my degree in Law Enforcement Technology and begun working as an admitting clerk at a hospital. As an admitting clerk, I am required to courteously greet patients, interact with them in a bid to get information from them for registration purposes. I also do insurance verification, document preparation for treatment purposes and admission form processing. I convey information to patients and their families on treatment processes, billing, payment procedures, and patient rights. Therefore, this job for me has taken my customer service skills a top-notch.
With my degree in Law Enforcement, I have with me criminal justice skills, for instance, research where I can access crime data resources and analyze economic and societal aspects affecting crime ethics. During my time in college, I was also able to master some writing skills such as report composition, essay writing on criminal justice. Apart from research and writing, I have also gained inductive and deductive reasoning, critical thinking, collaboration, leadership and case study skills. I can now interrogate, interview and build arguments. When it comes to technology and crime, I am capable of mapping crimes using relevant software and identify fingerprints with relevant systems.
My work and life experiences after high school have instilled in me the passion, commitment, initiative, and competency of being an effective lawmaker. I strongly believe that I can make a good pretrial service officer based on my education background, and work experience.
