One of the most significantly beneficial values to me at the moment in professional sports is accountability (Hutchinson & Bennett, 2012). Accountability is closely linked to being responsible and answerable to the team members and the coaching heads within the athletic teams. Accountability and reliability in athletics as a core value share a bond in that they are both essential to sportspeople (Meyer, 2005). An example of a moment when I was accountable was during an athletics championship when I was only twenty years old, and the team appointed me as they disciplinarian due to my core values. Accountability helped me to keep the team in check. If other people on the team do not honor accountability, I may feel like they are not supposed to be part of the group or that they are degrading its performance. The other significant value to me in athletics is conflict resolution (Wachsmuth, Jowett & Harwood, 2017). More often than not, athletes in the same team or different teams have conflicts that derail their performance on the field. The disputes are solved to have them reconcile, and boost the performance of the overall team. When I was a disciplinarian of our athletics team, I ensured that conflicts among the teammates were amicably solved to increase the opportunities for the performance of the team. When the value of conflict resolution is not honored, I tend to become angry with the offenders and seek to educate more on the core value, its importance and why I believe in it. The last core value that is Important to me is open communication (Waters, 2017). Open communication has the utmost significance in a team among the team members on the various capacities. When I was a disciplinarian, I used to communicate the rules and regulations of our team in a clear but concise manner that ensured the other team members understood them. If people tend not to honor open communication, I feel disappointed with them to the point of engaging them in small talk to discover the importance of communication among the team members.
