During Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQs), the Prime Minister was asked about immigration, the climate emergency, delay in the delivery of the Maidstone East line, travel sites, and flooding. Jeremy Corbyn, the Leader of the Opposition, started by sending his thoughts to people around the world who are grappling with Coronavirus and also praised the medical emergency staff globally (UK Parliament, 2020). He then delved in the questions including:
Whether the Prime Minister agrees that he has ignored the individuals affected by the flood. He questioned him regarding the failure to set a Cobra meeting and what the government is doing to prevent the floods.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
The prime minister responded that since the flooding started, the government has been working very hard to ensure that the victims get the necessary support. He mentions that the government has put £2.4 billion into flood defenses now and £4 billion more in the future. He said that since the floods started, there have been continuous administration activities that have helped protect 200,000 households from flooding.
Why the government is investing less 50 percent of the amount of money that was determined by the Environmental Agency of England regarding the need to improve flood defenses across the nation
The Prime Minister (PM) responded that there are insurance problems, but the government has provided cover for more than 164,000 households since 2018. Measures are also in place to ensure that households get £5,000 to compensate for the damage caused by the floods.
How can the country trust a part-time Prime Minister? Mr. Corbyn talked about more than 20,000 homes lacking a Government insurance Scheme or protection by government defenses. He asks the PM why he has not prioritized these issues.
The PM responded that the government had not only been working on the flood defenses but also been recruiting more than 20,000 police officers, stopping terrorism, and facilitating homeownership. Moreover, it has been creating jobs while the opposition has been engaging narcissistic debates on whether they should still be part of the European Union (Brexit) instead of focusing on delivering what they promised the people.
From this session, I learned that the opposition wants accountability from the government, especially regarding current issues.
