The neonatal nurse practitioner working at the pediatric wing of the hospital suggests that the fundamental role of a caregiver, as a healthcare team member, is to provide patients and their families with the care they deserve and need. According to Babiker et al . (2014), an effective care team can affect the safety as well as the positive outcome of a patient. In this regard, a healthcare team is necessary for the realization of positive results based on the increasing complexities of providing specialized care as well as the rising co-morbidities. For these reasons, the nurse indicates that the execution of her role as a caregiver is fundamental. The values, as well as principles of working as a team in delivering care to a patient, provides the healthcare providers with a practical approach that enables them to provide quality patient care.

The nurse defines professionalism as the adherence to nursing codes. In this regard, the professional codes determine the standards of conduct, ethics, and caregiving performance expected of a nurse. The foundation of nursing practice is the nursing codes, which can be considered as a tool that nurses use to safeguard the health as well as the well-being of individuals. The need for nurses to adhere to the code is essential for providing non-biased care, maintaining integrity in the profession, encouraging discipline, and avoiding possible medical errors. On the other hand, based on the idea that providing care requires collaborative relationships with other medical staff, maintaining a professional relationship with the care team is important since it fosters the positive relationships with a patient. Professionalism also affects a nurses’ state of mind in the sense that they are likely to strive to approach a patient in an optimistic and friendly manner.

Concerning the element of stewardship, the leaders in the organization could be considered as stewards of healthcare. In this case, the organizational leaders can enhance policy outcomes, which is one of the dominating potentials of stewardship (Fouche, 2011). The leaders can develop new models that can be used in delivering care. On the other hand, they can address the changing nature of the work of nurses. Since the roles of nurses change continually, the leaders can collaborate with nursing research colleagues to put in place mechanisms that could be used to refine further evidence that could be used to improve patient outcomes. As stewards, the nurse leaders work with nurse practitioners and educators to transform their practice environment.

The nurse emphasizes the importance for leaders to exercise professional advocacy, authenticity, power, and influence when working with the colleagues. The reason for considering the provisions identified emanates from the idea that they should influence decision-making during the provision of care services. It is vital for nurse leaders to create health care environments that can ensure the realization of value-based nursing practice. For this reason, they should engage their colleagues to determine how achieving value-based practice is achievable by utilizing their character, shared values, and dialogue. A nurse leader can use the professional provisions to implement practices that can assist in informing appropriate models of care delivery, which is an aspect of nursing that makes them chief safety officers within the healthcare facility. Their professionalism influences them to be responsible for the welfare of the patient population.
