I have a student-centered philosophy. As I reflect on my study and practice in education, my professional motivation comes from a personal dedication to improve the student experience and success. I believe all students are different. Thus, they have their unique ways of learning and their own set of gifts and needs that they bring to class. As a student development professional, I am committed to facilitating the growth and success of my students. I provide services, activities, and innovative programs that improve the quality of student’s life. In a holistic approach, I develop a student-centered environment where learners will embrace, enhance, and create long-lasting skills and experiences. I desire to ensure every student shall grow and flourish.

I encourage self-exploration and actualization and serve as a student development professional and as an adviser, educator, leader, and mentor. I apply my skills in empowering my students to grow while assisting them in learning from the student body’s diversity. Through my student development services and activities, I always assist my students in becoming international learners. I also help them to integrate, recognize, and engage in their learning experiences out of class. Consequently, they will develop transferable skills in creative and critical thinking, teamwork, leadership, and communication.

Additionally, I help my students to foster healthy relationships. I help them build supportive and trusting connections. They create reasonable relationship expectations that help them resolve their interpersonal conflicts successfully. Through my student development profession, I teach my learners to be aware of personal values, goals, interests, emotions, attitudes, beliefs, and future aspirations. Besides, I teach them to participate and identify opportunities that promote emotional awareness and self-reflection. As a teacher, my objective is to help students make choices based on their own beliefs and values. I assist them in setting their priorities and follow them. Moreover, I teach my learners to develop dynamic life philosophy through experiences.

Due to my desire to help students appreciate diversity and different perspectives, I encourage them to engage with individuals from different cultures. As a result, they fully understand the world around them, hence making global and local connections. As I teach, I help my students recognize the significance of integrity and accountability. I also advise them to participate in activities that enable them to practice public service, community citizenship, and civic responsibility. Furthermore, I ensure that my students base their decisions on a coherent ethical framework, which they can articulate clearly. Subsequently, they choose to align their words with their behaviors.

In my profession, I ensure that my students’ success is determined by their skills and knowledge and their personal development and growth. Success is defined as the continued opportunity to accomplish or the accomplishment of individual goals (Anderson & Williams, 2018). As a student development professional, my philosophy meets the objectives, goals, and needs of the diverse learners in the academic community through a student-centered focus. I empower my students to develop and enhance their interpersonal skills to promote interconnectivity and self-reliance between peers, the community, and the faculty. I challenge my learners to look at other individuals’ perspectives, beliefs, alternative philosophies, and differing points-of-view. Since I allow my students to walk beside me as their leader, adviser, and mentor, I help them grow exponentially both academically and personally.

Similarly, I assist them in initiating their paths to success. It is my responsibility to offer my students a secure and comfortable atmosphere. Confidence is essential for students to succeed. Although I set high standards for my students, I ensure they are attainable. Learners deserve to be challenged to maximize their potential. To me, teaching is a joy, a challenge, and a life-long process of making and reflecting necessary adjustments. I enjoy every student’s uniqueness as I help them grow physically, socially, and intellectually.
