Criterion for Comparison
To be able to compare the two sets of Project management software, it is important to arrive at a specific criterion for comparison. The first aspect of this criterion is value. Value goes beyond cost, although cost is a consideration within it (Hornstein, 2015). The second criterion is nature of service which relates to how the project management software serves the user. Next is the efficacy in undertaking the obligations that the specific project management software undertakes. Another criterion is the propensity for error by the software and the ease of realization of that error and also captivity by the user to mitigate on the error. The malleability of the software, based on how it can be applied in different scenarios will also be considered (Hornstein, 2015). Finally, the level of expertise necessary to use the software will be compared.
The Trello Project management software
Trello is a PC-based project management software that is personalized by an individual user and operated specifically by the single user through the specific device. The Trello account can also be operated through a mobile device such as a smartphone or tablet. This is the very same account and still limited to the same user, just under multiple gadgets. A Trello account is, therefore, private and specifically set to meet the specifications of the user.

Deltek Vision Project Management Software
Deltek Vision lies in the other extreme end of the divide from Trello. It is an advanced algorithm based software that when calibrated takes over the management of a project. It has an almost unlimited number of users and can be able to direct and coordinate these users in the management of a project (Deltek, 2017). Deltek carries the capability of running a project.

Value | Trello is a subscription service with every individual user paying an annual fee of $119.99 or a $12.50 per month. This is the lowest possible price but for premium services, higher amounts are charged depending on the nature of the premium package. The services offered by Trello are mainly purely based on the input of the user (Trello, 2017). The marketing clarion for Trello is that the user can do a million things with it. This means that it offers a wide variety of project management activities and is, therefore, good value for money. | The exact price of Deltek is not definitive since it is specialized and the price is determined by the nature of the project. User comments found, however, included words like ‘pricey’ and even ‘outrageous’. This leads to the conclusion that Deltek works well but is quite expensive even considering how well it works. |
Nature of Service | Trello works for the user, specifically based on the information that the user has input in the system and also based on the setting that the user has placed. Just as the clarion call states, Trello does not work for the user, instead, it helps the user to work. Trello will arrange the work set by the user based on the timelines the user has set (Trello, 2017). It will also remind the user of the information they would want to be reminded as and when preset. This means that the user will plan the program management schedules and specifications then feed them into Trello. The software will then walk the user through the project. | Deltek is fed with the specifications of a project as best as the team is able to arrive at them. The software will then undertake the complex process of evaluating the project in its entirety and also in its sequences (Deltek, 2017). The software will be able to predict feasibility, develop possible contingencies and share duties based on the fed specifications. It can be said that Deltek actually runs the project for the user. |
Propensity for Error | Trello does not make mistakes by itself but can replicate mistakes made by the user. It is capable of avoidance of simple mistakes such as calculations by the user but not mistakes in logic. | Deltek handles a substantive amount of work for the project. It calculates but also handles logic based decision-making (Deltek, 2017). The propensity for error is, therefore, higher than that of Trello. |
Malleability | There is almost no conceivable project that Trello cannot handle. Its project management use is, however, limited to the parts played by one user at a time. For projects where more people need a project management software, each would have to get their own independent Trello account (Trello, 2017). | Deltek can work under a very wide range of activities but its logical input is limited to specific margins. It cannot be said to be able to do a million things like Trello both those things that it can actually do, it is capable of doing them thoroughly. |
User Expertise | Any computer literate person with average proficiency can use Trello. However, Trello is only an assistant. Thus the user must be competent in project management to use Trello to manage a project. | As a specialized online program with many users, a level of specialized training is necessary to use Deltek, over and above the basic understanding of computers. Some form of training is necessary not only on how to use Deltek but also how to handle it from project to project. |
Discussion and Recommendation
Project management entails initiating projects and carrying them through to their logical conclusion. It involves several phases such as planning, execution, and evaluation. Collection of data, sharing of information, coordination and decision-making are the most important elements of project management (Hornstein, 2015). Deltek is a complex online project management software that takes over operation of the projects leaving project managers playing a support role. When fed with the information necessary, the need for human expertise in project management is limited as the software does most of the work. This is most suitable in massive projects that have several users and no financial constraints. On the exact extreme is Trello, a single user PC-based project management software that plays the role of assisting project managers to carry out their obligations. Trello is recommended for simple projects with a few users and one principal project coordinator
