The seminar will expound on some of the underlying risk factors for prostate cancer, such as age and lifestyle, identify some of the key signs and symptoms of the condition, and examine some of the notable prevention strategies that the at-risk population might consider.
Content Topic/Needs: According to the American Cancer Society, prostate cancer is one of the leading forms of cancer in older adult males in the United States. It notes that 1 out of every 9 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime; thus, highlighting its health implications. Johansen Taber et al. (2010) posit that the incident rate of prostate cancer is less than 1% and often occurs at later stages of life when compared to some of the other forms of cancer, such as breast cancer. Although it is rare for males below 40 years, the main challenge that it introduces is that it creates a situation where patients experience a significant reduction in the quality of life they lead. That is especially notable considering that approximately 6 cases out of 10 occur in men over 65 years. With the growing number of older adult male in the society, prostate cancer should be a condition that raises serious health concerns, especially focusing on its health implications.

Target audience: The target audience considered for this seminar is the older adult male population, 50 years and over, who have the highest risk of diagnosis with prostate cancer. The seminar will focus on men living in both urban and rural areas considering that they face equal risks for diagnosis with prostate cancer.

Learning Theory: The learning theory that will be of most value for this seminar is Constructivist Learning Theory. Constructivism theory suggests that the learning process reflects on a process in which learning actively construct their knowledge and reality based on their experiences. The main focus for this seminar is to engage the target group in an in-depth discussion about prostate cancer with the objective being to provide them with an overall experience on what to expect when dealing with the disease. The target group will then be accorded an opportunity from where to maximize their learning abilities with the view being to ensure that they build their experiences based on what they have learned. Although many of the older adult male have information about prostate cancer, the main challenge for them is understanding its impacts and how they would prevent exposure to some of the risk factors (Perdana, Mochtar, Umbas, & Hamid, 2016). The learning theory will use this as a base to determine the overall process considered as part of maximizing targeted learning. The method to solve the issues associated with this disease is to increase prostate cancer screening within the target group for early identification of the disease.
Instructional Methods/Materials: The seminar will incorporate an audiovisual learning approach through short lectures presented on the topical issue of prostate cancer. The instructor will use PowerPoint slides that will include points on some of the key aspects that the audience needs to understand, which will then be explained through audio presentations. The presentation will also include a set of pictures and videos aimed at advancing overall knowledge on the audience. The pictures and videos presented will serve as supports for the overall learning process considered. Participants will then be given an opportunity to provide their feedback and ask questions relating to the different areas of learning. The instructor will use this session as an opportunity to understand some of the fears that the learners may have regarding prostate cancer depending on their feedback and questions asked.
Handout: The seminar will incorporate a flier as its main handout that will be created with the objective being to visually appeal to the target audience. The flier will include information about what the audience has learned through the audiovisual learning approach considered. Additionally, the flier will present any new information about prostate cancer that the audience may not have heard with the view being to advancing their learning capacities. The text used as part of flier will create a sense of appeal for the audience as a way of advancing their understanding of what to expect as they learn about prostate cancer. Lastly, the flier will also include contact information for some of the resources that the audience would consider as they deal with the challenge associated with this type of cancer.

The seminar will increase awareness of different signs and symptoms associated with the development of the condition within the at-risk population. The seminar will expound on the risk factors that may an integral role in the development of the condition among men who are 50 years and older. Additionally, the seminar will provide adequate information to the selected population regarding the prevention strategies that may be considered to ensure that the population overcome major risks relating to the prostate cancer condition.
Goal: The primary goal is to ensure that the men attending the programs gain an understanding of the risk factors that contribute to the development prostate cancer. Another significant goal is to ensure that the at-risk population are able to recognize the signs and symptoms associated with the condition, with the aim of ensuring that they seek medical intervention as early as possible. Lastly, the participants in the seminar will learn the need to go for screening and check-ups and how to make the screening to be part of their routine, as it is an important aspect that helps towards a maintaining a good lifestyle.
