Research is a key factor in the field of psychology. There is a tendency to come up with reliable statistics to prove and or o affirms some of the theories that exist in the field of psychology. Qualitative and quantitative research methods are both very influential in generating reliable statistics that can prove or disapprove the various theories that are found in the psychology field ( Neuman, 2013) . The qualitative research comes into play, particularly concerning the various areas of dissatisfaction including such areas as the behavioral attributes in the field of psychology. At the same time, there is the need to explore the experience and feelings of the participants in the study, thus the need for the qualitative research mechanisms. Te qualitative methodologies help in the realization and the determination of the reality of the individuals including the cultures, social orientations as well as the how and why’s of the results.

Quantitative research in psychology helps with the determination and the realization of the general laws of behavior and the universal phenomenon across different contexts. From the school library, I got the article on “Qualitative Research: Observational methods in health care settings.” This article discusses the way in which clinicians used the observation on the patients to determine the disease that they suffer from as well as the cause of the disease ( Neuman, 2013) . The clinicians watched the patient’s behaviors, their reactions until they can determine what disease they suffer from. The qualitative observation could be a confusing aspect of the study and the eventual determination of the disease that an individual suffers from. At the same time, there are several mechanisms by which a person can generate a detailed report through a systematic examination of the patients. This qualitative research method is not the best for this type of research. There could exist other factors that case the observable behavioral changes in the patients which call for a quantitative examination as well to determine the real factors relating to the disease cause.

I am determined to study the impact of water hyacinth on the fishing industry. I prefer to use the qualitative way to study this project by engaging the shore fishermen and seeking their opinion and feelings on how and in what ways the water hyacinth has impacted on their fishing expedition. At the same time, I would collect data, from the fisheries industries on the statistical fluctuations in the fish quantities and analyze the data against the realities of financial returns for clear investigation.
