Religion comprises beliefs, ritual ethics, and practices agreed upon by people, and which serves as a moral code that guides human behavior (Hood , Hill &Spilka, 2018). The difficulty in telling the difference between religion and religious lies in the fact that the two concepts share a similar root. However, an incisive analysis of the two aspects reveals subtle differences. Beliefs are anchored on doctrines which contain express procedures on how people ought to conduct themselves within particular spiritual frameworks. Religious, on the other hand, may include values, behaviors, and beliefs that an individual inculcates in their lives through culture or inheritance. Hood, Hill &Spilka (2018), was of the view that religion creates a platform upon which an individual can grow to earn the description of being religious.

Religions are also creations of human beings; people continue to modify them to suit changing times. Theology scholars agree that the state of being religious derives its life from one belonging to an established religion, irrespective of its stature. According to the findings of Hood, Hill & Spilka (2018), spirituality elevates one to a level where one feels they are not confined to a particular mental entanglement but are enjoying a feeling on an empowered mind. Spirituality relies on the understanding the real power on an individual lies within them and does not require external guidance. Further, people who are spiritual understand that they are in firm control of their lives and their desires and mental powers define their futures.

Critical evaluation of the above concepts provides one with a deeper understanding of the extent of their definitions. Moreover, it instills one with the ability to embrace other peoples’ religions. Significantly, the knowledge acquired in the course is crucial in eliminating religion-based boundaries which have often led to violent confrontations. A proper understanding of religion as a creation of man should contribute towards the creation of a tolerant and peaceful world.
