Education is considered the cornerstone of survival in the modern-day society. There are numerous adults who were not lucky enough to attend colleges or vocational training schools to receive their bachelor’s and graduate degrees (Temple, 2009). However, there is an opportunity to return with these institutions offering flexible hours and learning conditions to gain new skills or enhance current knowledge (Epperson, 2013). Unfortunately, not many of them take this opportunity with fear holding them back. The initial step is to admit that it is a necessary step to improve one’s professional life. In this regard, a high level of commitment is involved to ensure one completes the entire length of the program. The tuition costs may be of concern to the individual as it can be quite expensive (Alhassan, 2012). However, when education is viewed as an investment, the incurred costs do not seem as much of a sacrifice as they appear. This perspective will serve as an effective motivation to achieve the set goal.

Licensed vocational nurse (LVN) is an entry level care provider undertaking the task of providing basic nursing care under the guidance of a registered nurse or a physician. One of the basic reasons for returning to school is making significant progress in my nursing career. However, concerns may be raised about fitting in with the younger students particularly for the middle-aged adults. Recent studies have shown that nearly 40% of the enrolled students in colleges are above the age of 25 years (Peterson, 2017). There is no shame in returning to school to improve your professional competency. I like to refer myself as a life-long learner whether it is in the classroom, home, workplace, or any other social setting (Latham, 2015). By returning to college, I have an opportunity to interact with a diverse population with whom I can gain knowledge that I can apply into my professional life.
