Employees form a relevant part of any company. Most managers, however, ignore the fact that employees are human beings. Human beings also require time to relax and live their life. Employees should also learn to maintain a work-life balance ( Sirgy & Lee, 2018) . Moderation is the key to ensure that most things about life are preserved. People who are usually fixed to their works often experience signs of burnouts and stress. The outcome of the production of every employee is generally fixated on their productivity.

In most cases, overworked employees start to experience burnouts. Overworked employees usually have their productivity lowered substantially. In the end, the people lose themselves becoming a loss to the company forcing the management to replace them immediately ( Obeidat et al., 2019) . Overworked employees are also most likely to suffer from health problems. A tired person may also become less efficient since he or she may end up always taking sick leave. The employee also becomes less friendly and unfriendly to fellow workers. Therefore, teamwork and collaboration with other workers become difficult ( Sirgy & Lee, 2018) . Most importantly, both employees and employers should coordinate to ensure the work-life balance is guaranteed.

Role of Management in Maintaining Work-life Balance

The top management of the company determines its success and prosperity. Among these, the human resource management plays an integral part. The duties of human resource are versatile and keep changing depending on the organization ( Lee et al., 2019) . Among these responsibilities, human resource manager should be concerned and check the wellbeing of employees. From the hiring to training and also introducing the employees to work, HRM's should promote the welfare of employees. It becomes essential for everyone to ensure that employees are both healthy and satisfied with the work assigned to them ( Bhaswati, 2019) . Some employees are very delicate; hence, they should be treated with care. The human resource manager should take stands on behalf of employees at the same time, considering the goals of the company ( Obeidat et al., 2019) . Human resource managers should follow all managerial duties and policies to ensure that employees receive proper treatment. Right employee treatment means they are motivated hence boosted productivity.

For instance, the HR or rather the top management should check to ensure that senior management. Human resource management should also regard to create a good work culture for their employees ( Lee et al., 2019) . It becomes easy for employees wellbeing to be actualized. Communication also plays a critical role in providing an excellent work-life balance. Top managers should always initiate conversations with their juniors and vice versa. Excellent communication also ensures that all problems are addressed earlier enough before they become unmanageable ( Bhaswati, 2019) . It also instills a sense of belonging; thus, each worker feels worthy and involved in the success of the company.

Another way in which HR can be involved in ensuring employee work balance is by providing flextime. It becomes useful for them to work optimally as well as live their lives without a problem ( Obeidat et al., 2019) . Flextime becomes rather essential to individuals working in a busy environment. For instance, if employees work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for five days, they should be allowed to work for fewer hours daily as well as during the weekend. With technology in place, it has also become possible for people to work from home. Companies that are focused on long-duration assignments either annually or monthly, should not limit the working time of the employees. As long as he or she delivers the required obligation deadline, there should not be fixed working hours.

Importance of Work-life Balance

HR professionals should always be keen and creative enough to observe durations when the employees are sacrificing themselves too much at work. A human resource manager should also focus on ensuring the productivity of employees ( Sirgy & Lee, 2018) . It provides mental stability whenever an employee keeps a balance between work and regular life operations. The most affected are women, especially trying to serve their families as well as remain productive at work ( Jantzer et al., 2018) . Whenever they go to maternity, they are usually under pressure to recover the time lost, thus may end up suffering from depression. Work-life balance also makes employees feel valued as well as developing a passion for their work.

A good work-life balance also guarantees a healthy body and mind for employees; thus, they are always able to remain physically and psychologically fit. Workplace burnouts may result in depression, blood pressures, and heart diseases, among other lifestyle-related diseases ( Obeidat et al., 2019) . It has been noted that if employees remain unnecessarily long hours at the office, makes them feel lazy and overworked. Employees should be focused on the quality of work and not the quantity of work ( Sirgy & Lee, 2018) . Overworked employees result in reduced productivity. Research also shows how employees who have steady work assignments become productive. Positive behavior and good work among employees result in fruitful results.

Conclusion

Not unless in exceptional cases where an employee's life revolves work, work-life balance is essential. An employee who is always focused on work loses touch with the outside world, resulting in a boring social life. Having a balanced life makes it possible for an employee to develop social and life skills that may be relevant for future employment.
