Domestic violence involves maltreatment and cruelty by one individual against another in marriage or domestic setting. In a country where most men are not abusive, cases of domestic violence are minimal. The non-violent men have a role in preventing violence against women.

Eradication of violence requires a change in social conditions, which make it acceptable and reasonable. Men have the ability to stop domestic violence and make an enormous difference through active participation in advocacy programs and awareness creation. The non-violent men are a positive role model to others and should condemn violence whenever they come across it. Children from their abusive parents can learn domestic violence and sexual assault behaviors. Providing support and being a positive role model to children without a positive male figure will help to curb learned violence. Speaking out against violence has a powerful effect in influencing a change of attitudes and social habits that perpetrate abuse ( Carmona, Grahovac & Martin, 2012).

Non-violent men can take up leadership roles in the community, such as in associations and religious groups, and use these platforms to speak out against violence. Men should avoid actions, attitudes, and prejudiced jokes in their conversations as they can perpetuate violence. Reaching out to victims of domestic violence will help to reduce adverse impacts of assault. Men can challenge the stereotype of manhood that promotes dominance and control. The system of dominion places the man on a pedestal of an abuser or victimizer. Challenging the stereotype will help to build healthy and respectful relationships in the society. Non-violent men can assist victims of assault to identify symptoms of abusive relationships and overcoming abuse. In conclusion, men have an important role to play in fighting against domestic violence. Change in social attitudes that perpetrate violence is the primary step in the eradication of violence. It is possible to have peaceful relationships free from abuse if all people work towards eradicating domestic violence in the society.
