Choosing the appropriate toy can be a challenge. Several guidelines can be followed in choosing a developmental appropriate and safe toy for a child. The toy should be developmentally appropriate. Despite the fact that it should be challenging, it should not frustrate the child (Miller, 2008). In addition, it should be approachable from different ways. The toy should address different levels of development and should not be functionally fixed.
Developmentally appropriate and safe toys should be safe for children of different ages. An appropriate toy for age should pass the choke test (Miller, 2008). Besides, the toy should be durable and meant for long use. It should not become obsolete soon. It should have play value for a period of time. The toy should be appealing to a child.

It is also worth noting that developmentally appropriate toys should be appropriate for use by the child according to the space that is available. The size of the toy should be appropriate for use in the intended space and for the number of children expected to use it (Miller, 2008). They include areas such as cognitive and social aspects (Miller, 2008).

The three toys selected include; Bath letters and numbers, Dado Cube and Inchmals . Bath letters and numbers are manufactured by Munchkin for children between three to five years with the purpose of introducing numbers, different colors and letters. They made of foam and small in size. They are made of foam that can be easily cleaned using water and soap and sanitized. Dado Cube made by fat brains toys cubes are made of plastic that is free from BPA with the purpose of improving motor and visual spatial skills in children. They are easy to clean using soap and water and then sanitized. Inchmals made by fat brain toys are appropriate toys for children between ages three to five years. They are blocks made of wood whose aim is to help kids learn mathematics concepts, easy to clean using soap and water. The toys can be purchased on Amazon.com.
Bath letters and numbers enable children to learn about colors, letters and numbers. The introduce learning in daily activities of a child such as during bath time. They promote development in different ways such as development of cognitive skills. I would use the toys for children aged three to five years.
I think a parent would purchase Bath letters and numbers because they are safe for use by children aged 3 and 5 years. In addition, they are developmentally appropriate. However, the toys present choking hazards to a child. To prevent this, I would keep an eye on children when using them.
Dado cubes enhance fine motor skills in children and help children between the ages of three to five years develop visual spatial abilities ( Squibb & Deitz, 2000 ). Therefore, they are developmentally appropriate for the age group. The toys are safe and I would use them with children of this age.
I think parents would purchase Dado cubes because they meet development needs of a child in this age group. In addition, they are educative. Children playing with them should be monitored closely to prevent injuries that might be caused by the toys.
Inchimals toys introduce vocabulary and promote creative thinking. The toys are appealing to children because they come in different colors, shapes and sizes. In addition, they are not difficult to play with hence cannot frustrate children. I think a parent would select the toys because they meet the requirements of developmentally appropriate toys.
I would select Inchimals toys for use with children between ages three to five years because they are appropriate for the age, promote development and learning and they are safe to use. The size of the toys, materials used to make them and the fact that they don’t have sharp edges make them safe ( Squibb & Deitz, 2000 ).
