Cosmetology, like any other profession involves undertakings that can be dangerous to both the client and the cosmetologist if safety procedures and practice is not observed. It is, therefore, vital that every cosmetologist to have an extensive comprehension of consumer safety as well as all safety procedures. Consequently, every cosmetology student must carry out services in a safe and secure environment to prevent the spread of contagious diseases and infections during their practice ( Hopcus and Armstrong, 2014) . Cosmetology safety rules are, hence, broken down to six categories which include; 

Health Regulations 

Every area in the salon must be cleaned, dusted and sanitized. 

Any drinking liquids in the salon must be covered or capped. 

Eating food in the salon is prohibited. 

All chemicals must be properly labeled and well stored. 

Appropriate personal protection equipment such as gloves must be used in every service. 

Hands must be washed before and after handling clients. 

Hands must be sanitized before and after serving a customer. 

Maintenance 

Hair must be swept up and the floor kept clean to avoid slippage. 

Waste materials must be deposited in a bagged garbage can. 

The garbage can must be emptied frequently. 

The work area is properly ventilated. 

Wet floors must be well labeled. 

Supplies 

Paper towels as well as liquid soaps must be provided and more kept in the closed. 

Hand sanitizers must be located in accessible area. 

Dryer sheets, laundry soap and baskets must be available for the work area. 

Barbicide must be available for brushes as well as stylists combs. 

First Aid 

Well equipped first aid kit must be provided and accessible in the work station. 

The first aid kits must be regularly inspected and replenished as required. 

Emergencies 

Emergency numbers must be posted on the work area’s walls. 

Fire prevention and evacuation procedures must be provided in the work area. 

In cases where work areas have chemical services, emergency eyewash bottles must be provided. 

Exit as well as warning signs must be posted appropriately. 

Every hot appliance must be unplugged before leaving the working area.

Introduction

Before students work on a work area floor, we must have comprehensive understanding of the health risks involved to promote cosmetology safety. As cosmetologists, the students will work closely with the public. Therefore, the students will complete cosmetology safety rules and procedure on numerous salon services and tools, promoting client, coworkers and their safety ( Alpert, Altenburg, and Bailey, 2013) .

What are some of cosmetology safety rules and procedures have you come across in your visit to salons? 

What should you do to prevent injury, disease and infection incidences during cosmetology service? 

Theory and Practical Evaluation

The tutor will monitor student’s daily progress and participation with a goal of attaining 10 points in the aspects of adhering to directions, dressing, attitude and respect. 

The tutor will grade students’ practical tasks with a goal of attaining 10 points in organization, equipment handling, observation of safety rules. 

The instructor will as well provide a test at the end of the lesson with a goal of attaining 85% accuracy. 

Follow up Assignment : Students will write a term paper on the importance of cosmetology safety rules in modern society.

Yes. Each rules addresses a crucial undertaking in daily cosmetology that is not well-done can leaded to a serious disease, infection and injury. For instance, cosmetologist not only interact with many people, the deal with their skin, hair and nails frequently. In such services, it is extremely important that a cosmetologists washes and sanitizes their hands before and after the service to protect their health and that of the clients. It is also important in services such as nail work or hair shampooing or washing that one wares gloves to avoid incurring injuries or an infection ( Harris-Roberts et al., 2011) . Similarly, one must ensure the working environment is both safe and clean by labelling all wet floors to avoid slippage and cleaning, dusting and sanitizing the salons equipment and apparatus.
