The schedule of reinforcement that Mrs. Blass is employing is a variable interval schedule. This type of effective conditioning schedule of reinforcement wherein a set of rules is given to a reaction after a certain period has passed, which is normally uncertain. However, this great deal of time is on an irregular/variable schedule. 

Variable ratio as a schedule of reinforcement is why Sally's boyfriend is still texting even after the breakup. When Sally refused to text back her boyfriend, he continues texting her a few times every day.

When first teaching a skill, the kind of reinforcement used is the fixed-ratio schedule, this is the type of reinforcement where a reaction is reinforced subsequently after a particular handful of responses. The subject gives a specific number of responses, and in turn, the instructor offers a prize. Continuous reinforcement is an approach to strengthening or abating a certain frequency of behavior. 

Manuel is using a fixed ratio as a schedule of reinforcement to lure customers to his repeat business. A ratio schedule entails the use of responses at a given period. For example, his technique of offering free drip coffee after they get a star for every five dollars spent will ensure customers come back to redeem their royalties. 

Patients are motivated by Dr. Lee's initiative as per the Fixed ratio -3 (FR-3) schedule of reinforcement. In this type of schedule, three responses have to be provided to obtain reinforcement. This move will allow Dr. Lee to see his clients three times a year after every 3.3 months. Again, three responses are provided, ensuring there are no backups or low numbers at any time of the year.
