Jordan, the psychologist, is faced with an uphill task in addressing Jane's and John's problems. The predominant problem in the case is addiction on the part of John, which occurs in two ways. First, John is a gambling addict, and second, he is a substance abuser. These two vices have had cause John to become irresponsible in his marriage with Jane and caused them to have trust issues as Jane suspects John of having an affair. If the issue is not addressed, it may lead to domestic violence, injuries or fatalities within the family. Therefore, Jordan must try and help the family using an evidenced-based approach EBP.
Option two is the best approach because I believe that time is of the essence. Option 1 involves conducting a systematic review of the literature for EBP to address John's addiction. However, option two involves applying and existing EBP practice to address John's addiction. The option goes directly into finding a practice that is evidenced by effectiveness given historical literature and data. Immediately when the practice is decided, Jordan, the psychologist, can come up with an effective plan to handle John's case. The plan will put into consideration the stakeholder's in John's as it is important. Also, the plan will consider cultural, organizational and any other forms of barrier that would hinder the process of addressing John's problem. Option 1 intended outcome is to help John come out of addiction and become a responsible member of the family and society as a whole, therefore, eliminating the risk of domestic violence as well as the risk of a broken family, which is not great for the children.

A good EPB for Jordan to use comes off the understanding that John being an addict, is not a sickness. It is a subconscious choice made because he lacks a connection link between him and his family as well as society. Therefore, looking or found a new reliable connection between him and the activity of gambling as well as the drugs he uses. Taking away gambling or the drugs by putting him in a rehab facility will not solve his addiction because, as soon as he is out, he will reconnect with what he deemed reliable. The best approach is to help John find a reliable connection with his family and society as a way of making him feel he matters again.
