Leadership requires being all-around and thinking critically, listening to other people, and making decisions that will ensure the continuity of the success of an organization or place work. The success or failure of a leader is dependent on their personality, how they perceive things, and how they handle matters about the organization. Strong characters and effective leadership strategies ensure successful leadership.

Effective authoritative leadership is an example of successful leadership. While traditional leadership may appear frustrating to customers, other members, or partners, it helps in the successful implementation of policies that ensure an organization's success (Yukl et al. 2012). A practical example of effective authoritative leadership is Margaret Thatcher, who was the first female prime minister of the United Kingdom. Her leadership stands out because she set up policies that polarized public opinion. In one instance, she forced the mineworkers to concede without a deal when she stocked up coal supplies in advance. Thatcher's leadership style that involved grit, determination, and uncompromising authority gave Britain a say in foreign affairs. Her type of successful control is worth emulating.

Leadership that follows procedure and listens to other individuals in the organization is successful. Procedural leadership ensures that everything is done according to written and accepted guidelines and strictness. The beauty of procedural leadership is that everything happens as it should (Yukl et al 2012). Anyone who does not follow protocols is assumed to be ignorant because the laid down protocols are clear. Adam Smith portrayed an excellent example of effective procedural leadership when he ensured industrial leadership by encouraging combined efforts of works. Smith believed that enabling individuals to work together would offer more success to an organization if individuals worked independently. Smith's strategy made the pin factory he was doing to see more success. Smith's actions show that he acknowledged teamwork, which is crucial in organizations. Additionally, smith believed that the arrangement was not only useful for organizations but the entire nation.

When leadership recognizes trivial achievements, ignores significant accomplishments, and takes the credit for other members' contributions, it becomes unsuccessful. During my internship in a health facility in New York, an intern discovered a method through which diabetic patients could be managed while in their homes. When she presented her proposal to the hospital management, it was written off and ignored. The administration told her that the method was ineffective and unacceptable. However, a year late, the administration adopted the system, and it was written under one of the facility's general managers. Taking credit for employee's achievements is unethical and discourages innovations (Yukl et al. 2012). In such an instance, the leadership was unsuccessful by taking credit for an intern's project.

I have several leadership strengths and preferences. The disc personality model evaluation also depicts some of my strengths. As a leader, dominance takes a significant part of me. I believe in being authoritative and that when policies are put in place, they should be followed to the latter without compromising. Being effectively authoritative may sound rude and self-centered, but it ensures that things are in place (Kellis & Run, 2012). As a leader, one is faced with challenges that may be stressful; if a leader manages, assumes external challenges, and focuses on his work, then that is effective leadership. My area of strength is that I can imagine the stress around me and focus on leadership. My great belief in teamwork also ensures that I have successful leadership since leadership is critical for organizational development.

On my evaluation as a leader, I have weaknesses such as impatience. I believe that things should be done once and with perfection. My belief that mistakes are mostly intentional is my greatest undoing as a leader. A great leader needs to ensure that he has patience with his team and understands every member's ability to provide successful leadership. Besides, my authoritative nature seems to scare my colleagues as they find it intimidating. However, firm decisions ensure that organizational success is achieved (Kellis & Run, 2012). The area that I need to improve includes the patience with team members and expectations from the organization's members. High organizations lead to disappointments among leaders. Besides, I need to improve my decision-making process and increase the appreciation of other team members' ideas. Leadership is a collective role rather than an individual role. There every leader should foster good relationships with those he/she leads.

In conclusion, a leader's success or failure depends on their personality, how they perceive things, and how they handle matters about the organization. Strong characters and effective leadership strategies ensure successful leadership. Successful and failed leaderships result from the failed realization of leadership personalities and traits that should be appreciated for effective leadership. Self-assessment ensures that a leader knows where they fall and correct to provide continued effective leadership.
