The article focuses on the concept of self-governance whereby the term has been used to imply at simple and though part of the concept of self-government irrelevant aspects of the concept. The article highlights that the concept of self-governance have been widely misunderstood whereby most people believe that self- governance involves engaging in legal, institutional as well as procedural activities such as voting enjoying freedom of speech, association as well as press among other freedoms ( Miller, 2013) . However, the article clearly states that the concept of self –government primarily involves the culture of public responsibility, which is rooted in the ability of the citizens to actively take part in the decision-making process on matters regarding public affairs.In this case, people should own the right, ability, and responsibility to manage themselves ( Miller, 2013)

Additionally, the article focuses on how the US government protects the culture of self-governance through its functions, decision-making process, as well as how the citizens are treated as opposed to focusing on policies and how they promote self –governance. The article also has mentioned two factors in the US government structure which have adversely affected self-governance in the US which as electoral representation and the inexorable government distention( Miller, 2013)

Lastly, the author focuses on the faction, which is a term that has been used to refer to a situation when a small group of individuals represents a specific group of people. In this case, the faction has been viewed as a threat to self-governance, and the author highlights how this can be corrected using the wisdom of crowd approach ( Miller, 2013) . In this case, when the majorities are enlightened they will make informed decisions, hence, allowing them to make an informed decision when electing a leader. Lastly, the author focuses on moderation in representation as a strategy for protecting self-governance culture( Miller, 2013)
