I consider sleep to be the best relaxation time as it refreshes both the mind, and the body to prepare them for the next day. I anticipate a sound sleep daily even though sometimes I do get enough sleep because of going to bed late. Sleeping also is a dreaming time for me and for many other people. A dream is a spontaneous brain activity that persists for five to forty minutes and that occurs more than once during sleeping with a 90-minute interval (De Koninck, 2012).

The dreams I have experienced have taught me numerous lessons. The previous two weeks have been vital to me as I attempted to understand my dreams. I recorded the food I consumed, the events I experienced during the day, the stresses I faced, sleep time, the time I got up during the night, and the time I got out of bed the next day. I recorded all the information about the dream I experienced immediately I got up during the night or the following day. I could experience many dreams in a single night.

My sleeping patterns were inconsistent since I went to bed early sometimes while I was late at other times. The dreams I experienced were interconnected with past reflections and the thoughts I had during the day. My dreams, thus, were cognitively based. Foulkes (2014) states that the cognitive model of dreams consider dreams to be dependent on how people think as they sleep. The cognitive capacity that my sleep condition develops is, thus, vital.

I vividly remember one dream, which entailed a conversation between me and a friend whom I had not met for several years. We studied together at high school, went to different colleges, but we had never talked in reality for nearly two years. In my dream, I met the gentleman at a retail store in our hometown. The conversation began at the cashier area as we waited to pay for our goods. I greeted the man and asked him how he was doing. While conversing together, I noticed that we were out of the store and sitting at the park. It was a typical day as other people were also at the park minding their own issues. It was an interesting conversation because we conversed freely regarding different issues as though we had been meeting and talking daily. The dream ended suddenly when my morning alarm sounded. Then, I woke up and felt relaxed. My heart rate was slowed, which made me happy. I attempted to understand the meaning of the dream, and the reason I experienced it.

Then, I thought about the previous day events and discovered that I had adequate food even though I had reflected about my previous experiences before going to college and compared them with the experiences after going to college. My desire was to share those experiences with someone, but I could not get anyone who had a similar background as me around. I also recall that I appreciated the resolve of my friend in the dream. I had always desired to share my experiences with him in reality but I had not seen him for some time. During the past weeks that I recorded my dreams, I realized that many of the dreams were associated with this dream as I mostly found myself conversing with former and distant friend or relatives. These dreams usually relaxed and calmed my mind when I woke up the next day.

All my diet during the day included vegetables in addition to other ingredients. I also ensured that I went to bed early and had adequate sleep. During the day, I ensured that I had handled any problems to avoid negative thoughts during bedtime. I learned that I am so engaged in my life that I forget to call my previous friends or distant relatives to know how they are doing. It is during bedtime that thoughts about them emerge in my mind. My dreams are related to the thoughts about what I desire to share with my former friends and distant relatives regarding my life. They are also related to what I desire to know about their life experiences. My dreams are influenced by my thoughts and reflections and the desire to share my life experiences, and the desire to know others’ life experiences.

I learned that daily stresses influence my sleeping habits, and the dreams I experience. Based on my records, I discovered that high-stress levels that involve thoughts about my life and how others’ are doing are correlated with late bedtimes since I spent more time reflecting on my life and wonder how my former friends and relatives are doing. Then, when I sleep my dreams involve conversations with those people, which usually make me feel relaxed after waking up because I usually feel that I had freed my mind of a heavy burden. When I had many thoughts I dreamt a lot at night but I dreamt less when I was tired and had no time to think about many things.

In conclusion, it is important to enhance my connections with the people I care about by regularly calling them to share my life experiences and to ask them about their life experiences. The bases of my dreams are on the reflections about my life experiences, and the desire to share them with the people I care about and to know about others’ life experiences. They are also based on the level of stress I experience during the day when thinking about other people. Improving my connection with them by regularly calling them will ensure that I sleep well and continue experiencing relaxing and exciting dreams. I should also maintain my eating habits since they do not adversely affect my dreams.
