Research question: is the use of smartphones a need or an addiction
Over one billion people worldwide make use of smartphones on a daily basis. Statistics projected that by 2020; approximately 2.32 billion people will be using smartphones (Fullwood, Quinn, Kaye & Redding, 2017). The major concern regarding the smartphone usage is smartphone addiction, which has adverse impacts on users including health, psychological, and social problems. The high-risk groups for the addiction of smartphone usage are adolescents, who believe they cannot functioning without a smartphone (Russo, Bergami & Morandin, 2018).

Hypothesis: Excessive use of smartphones over a long duration is the main cause of smartphone addiction
If adolescents start spending more time using smartphones, then they are likely to become addicted to the use of the smartphones. It can also be said that use of smartphones e xcessively is negatively correlated to smartphone addiction among adolescents.
Null hypothesis
H o - Excessive use of smartphones among adolescents has no effect on addiction
H 1 - Excessive use of smartphones among adolescents is negatively correlated to addiction
