Abstract

Currently America has a housing crisis. In 2017, Congress announced intentions to cut back on social housing funding and other programs aimed at helping low income earners. 

Significance of the Problem 

Every year, the cost of renting or buying houses keeps rising in America. Most people find themselves ‘rent burdened’. America also has a homelessness crisis, and especially in the cities.

Research Questions  

What are the causes of the housing problems? 

How can affordable housing policies would solve the housing crisis? 

How can the public help to steer affordable housing policies? 

Research Design 

Qualitative Design. The research will be based on hypotheticals that will be approved or disapproved in the findings and conclusion of the research. 

Quantitative design. The research will also make use of statistical data to support the hypotheticals. 

Independent and Dependent Variables 

Dependent variables will include the cost of owning or renting a house in major cities in America. This will include stock of housing, housing financing, land laws and regulations. 

Independent variables will include land use policies and the effect it has on the cost of housing. 

Potential ethical quandaries 

Determining the credibility and legality of online information sources might present an ethical dilemma. 

Weaknesses and threats to validity of the research 

There might be lack of enough statistics regarding the housing policies, homelessness, and land use policies. 

Research might be limited by the accessible documents regarding housing as a public policy. 

Navigating different federal and state laws regarding housing policies might be challenging and time consuming. 

Wholesomely, the study would be instrumental in presenting insight regarding the housing hurdles of low income earners.
