One of the social issues affecting many diverse cultures is mental health. However, the predominant culture in a given society is one of the factors that lead to many people being negatively affected by the mental health issue in a given society. The African Americans have a higher prevalence of mental health issues in the United States because of a number of factors. Minorities in the United States are less likely to get medical help for their mental illness or inclined to wait until severe symptoms because of the stigma associated with the disease. On this note, one of the social issues affecting the diverse cultural society of the US community is the prevalence of mental conditions of the African Americans in the society.

The African Americans are particularly susceptible to mental health problems because of a number of issues that affect the community. One of the issues is that they have long been perceived to be violent and inclined to criminal activities in the country. Therefore, they have been subject to various discriminations that include social and institutional. The mental health condition of the African Americans is imperative to the society because it is both a public health and security issue to the rest of the society (DeFreitas et al., 2018). When a group in the society is suffering from mental health, the wellbeing of the rest of the society is held at jeopardy.

In relation to diverse populations, mental health among the blacks living in the United States is a major concern. There are many impacts on the mental health of African Americans to various groups in the United States. Primarily, the majority group of the whites have come to the conclusion that African Americans are not safe as companions because of the rampant crimes that they commit particularly against the majority group. On this note, one of the notable impacts of the mental health of the population is the development of distrust. Additionally, it is common for people who are susceptible to mental health problems to be associated with antisocial behaviors. Although susceptibility to mental health conditions is not limited to the African Americans but incorporates other groups such as the homeless people in the United States, the perception that a person may be having some mental illness is one of the factors that has led to the community stigmatizing mentally ill people. Thus, another notable impact is the development of stigma against some members of the community (Hastings & Snowden, 2019). The fact that one of the highest percentages of the populations in the United States that have mental health issues is one of the key drivers of the development of stigma against the group by most of the citizens.

Blacks living in the United States have been subject to various forms of discrimination and stigmatization by the American society. On this note, since mental illness is one of the factors that has led to profiling and other antisocial behaviors by the rest of the populations, most of the blacks who suffer from diverse mental conditions are not willing to seek medical help when they detect that they are developing the illness. Consequently, most of the individuals will wait until severe symptoms are noted. However, with delays in seeking medical attention, the African Americans are likely to worsen their situation to an extent that they are capable of committing various antisocial atrocities that include criminal behavior. The diverse population is impacted by the fact that the antisocial behaviors have a direct effect on their lives and wellbeing. Moreover, the diverse populations in the United States have to incur huge social costs in the treatment of the African Americans who are suffering from the mental illness because the government has to cater for the costs, which are transferred to the taxpayers.
