The Social Privilege Scavenger Hunt involves the analysis of diversity and inclusion in the society. The list involves analyzing several products such as Barbie dolls of different races and greeting cards for LGBT and heterosexual couples, and clothing sections for plus size individuals. For this study, local Walmart superstore was visited in order to review some of the items in the Privilege Scavenger Hunt list.
Barbie dolls that were identified were mostly white. There was a total of 5 colored Barbie dolls while 23 were white indicating that there was inequality in the representation. The cards for weddings, romance, and anniversary were mostly designed for heterosexual couples and there were very few cards designed for LGBT couples. Baby adoption congratulation cards were found in plenty. The signs at the store featured people did not feature people that were overweight or individuals that were over 60. The picture frames with filler pictures averaged to about 27 white people displayed in the signs while only 8 showed individuals that were colored. I was surprised by the numbers because it showed that there was a lack of representation for people that were of color in the signs and Barbie dolls.

There were very few items which feature Native American Sports team mascots. Shirts, cups, hats, and jerseys were available for this team. It was more alarming to find that the icon for one specific Native American team that was a white man and did not use an individual that was Native American. The clothing sections were well-placed and could easily it a wheel chair. While there was no section dedicated for plus-size individuals, most of the clothing were arranged in a way that showed progressive increase in size.
The workers at the store were mostly Latino American and African American apart from 4 white American employees. The staff was made of both young and old individuals. The general analysis of the customers showed that it was a diverse community and almost every group was represented include African American, white, Latino, and Asian Americans. What surprised me was that even though there were diverse individuals that visited the stores, most of the signs and Barbie dolls were biased towards white individuals.
