The concept of human nature is often a complex subject since it is not easy to discern fully why individuals behave in certain ways. In the video, Pinker attempts to dissolve some of the myths surrounding human nature. Many individuals like to believe that they play a significant role on their own actions and those of other individuals, however, science argues that there are other factors in play such as genetics and culture. This video has a lot of relevance since it clears some of the doubt regarding psychology and human development.
Factors such as heredities end up having a greater influence on human nature as Pinker appears to argue. Since such ideas appear to be conflicting to individuals` moral values, their instincts tend to draw them back. For example, it is often difficult for a parent to mold the personalities of their children (Cambridgenights, 2012, 7.35). This does not, however, mean that they should never be treated well since how they are treated tends to have a significant impact on their development.

Further relevance is extended by Pinker who offers insight on the subject of human reasoning and functioning by discounting some factors. For instance, human functionality was in existence prior to Darwin`s theory of evolution whereby if things occurred in close succession to each other one tended to remind about the other (Cambridgenights, 2012, 3.44). This is an aspect that was explained as a theory of association. Darwin had significant influence on people by helping them understand that some of the things that happen emanate from evolutionary adaptations which increase chances of survival.
Consequently, the laws of human nature are capable of influencing policies. Psychologically, people naturally strive for power and dominance, and hence they tend to believe that they can influence their behaviors (Cambridgenights, 2012, 6.06). This is an aspect which has been challenged by Pinker who asserts that people are not in control of their own abilities. The video, therefore, manages to engender significant influence and relate to most of the theories covered in class.
