The social welfare worth the attention in my community is the issue of unemployment benefits. The attention to unemployment benefits is attributed to the problem of rising unemployment rates (Farber & Valletta, 2013). In the recent past, society has experienced a growing unemployment rate, specifically a decline in employment rate between 2017 and 2018. Based on this occurrence, the unemployment policy is crucial in ensuring that it helps individuals faced with the unemployment problem. The specifics of unemployment insurance are that it covers individuals that have involuntarily lost their jobs and are characteristically within the eligible limits (Kolsrud et al., 2018). This means that individuals that lose their jobs out of their own will or are self-employed are not covered by the unemployment policy and have to take care of their selves. The defining factor of whether a person qualifies for unemployment benefit is that the federal government as a system of evaluation that is dependent on an employee’s previous taxation bracket.

Based on the aforementioned concepts of unemployment policy, my society, the City of Carson, California, has benefited in terms of state government working in collaboration with the federal government to ensure that the unemployment program continues running. For instance, observed cases of unemployment policy benefiting unemployment is evident in that those that receive the cash stipends are categorically the group of people that are continuously and actively seeking a job (Schmieder et al., 2016). The effectiveness of this program is that the eligible unemployed individuals are paid through state employment agencies. Literature suggests that this approach is commendable since it makes sure that those that enjoy unemployment benefits are those that really deserve it. On this note, the compensation benefits are focused on ensuring that the unemployed individuals get at least half of their past wages for continued survival. The reason this approach is perceivably important is that the state government of the City of Carson, California finds it necessary to compensate these individuals, particularly because of the benefits that were derived from the tax that was imposed on employers (Employment Development Department (Edd) Unemployment FAQs, 2020). If the effectiveness of this program is to continue, it is upon this agency to make sure that individuals meet the condition of having earned wages in the past and the cause of unemployment was not caused by their own means.
