Defending and Attacking Polygamy in Saudi Arabia
In Saudi Arabia, the society has high expectations of women in fulfilling their gender and family roles as compared to men. Men are accorded freedom to choose and do what they see fit especially in the family organization including the right to marry more than one wife (McCarthy, 2004). Meanwhile, women are required to be submissive and carry out their duties quietly without question. The notion of polygamy clashes with the western notion which encourages one man to one wife marriages to provide a conducive environment for the rearing of children. The western culture also promotes equality between a man and his wife rather than exalting the man above his wife.
Adoptive Gay Father Families
The research showed that the type of family a child is brought up in does not influence the gender roles and expectations of the society for both the male and the females. Children raised by gay or same-sex families are familiar with their expectations, norms, and standards that the society has placed for them as either male or female despite the type of family they come from (Golombok et al., 2014). This differs from the normal western family where parents are prone to socialize their children into their gender roles from an early age by being particular with children of both sexes through their parenting styles and reward such as toys different for each gender.

She’s the Man
This movie portrays a girl who attempts to fit in a male dominated world of football and she goes to great lengths to fit in as a young man (A Company Vietnam, 2014). Family, being the primary agent of socialization has promoted different socialization of boys and girls. Boys have been more privileged by being accorded independence and their expectations are less strict they have been allowed to be stronger aggressive and dominant while girls have been restricted to be obedient soft and passive. It depicts the current struggle that girls go through in search of equality and proof that they can do better than men in the fields that have normally been reserved for men to excel in. The concepts correspond to the western family that puts boys before girls.
