Over the past couple of decades, global warming has been considered as one of the most controversial issues as far as climate change is concerned. There have been different views on this issue, including its causes, effects and the policies that should be implemented to minimize the impact it has on the environment. There are those who believe that global warming is as a result of human activities whereas others believe that it is all as a result of natural causes which are inevitable. Others argue that the increasing levels of gas emissions to the atmosphere have led to the current state of global warming. The opposing side of this argument believe that the rise in global temperatures has been a common phenomenon in the past and as such, these fluctuations cannot be human based ( Rosser, 2008 ).

One of the main factions of these debates is modern scientists and environmental agencies, scientific organizations such as American Geophysical Union, Joint Science Academies, American Meteorological Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Royal Society, and Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. They believe that the current state of global warming has been caused by human activities. Research conducted on climate change has indicated that natural causes have very little effect on global warming. They believe that over the past 400 years, the temperatures have risen as a result of the rate of increased emissions ( Rosser, 2008 ). The other faction includes science skeptics and industrial associations that fight for the operation of their industries without restrictions. They argue that the carbon emissions are offset by the environment because forests, oceans and other carbon sinks reabsorb these gases thus negating extreme climate change. They believe that there is also not enough research to prove for fact that human activities are the cause of global warming.
