Collaboration is a team-teaching approach that has been recently put into practice. The special needs students require education as much as the others do. Their disability should not limit them to achieving their academic goals. For this reason, the teachers teach the students together simultaneously to ensure that the students get free and appropriate education and have access to the support they need for the learning to take place well. This paper discusses the critical advantages of collaboration with the special needs students.

Collaboration ensures that students having learning disabilities access a free and appropriate education. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) provides that, “students with learning disabilities should receive free appropriate public education in the most conducive environment” (Garcia-Carrion et al., 2018). The IDEA points out that one of the ways of providing the FAPE is through collaboration. According to Garcia-Carrion et al. (2018), students with learning disabilities are given specialized instruction in a collaborative classroom; thus, their varied needs are met. Collaboration ensures that the students receive FAPE through offered special instructions.

Another benefit of collaboration is providing the support needed by learners with disabilities. According to IDEA, students with disabilities should be offered education in the least destructive environment (Banks & Banks, 2019) . Adaptive behavior is beneficial for learners with learning disabilities. Skills such as grooming, adhering to school rules, socializing with others, among others also help the students with disabilities to improve their lives and help them become more useful in society. Through collaboration, teachers can assess the strengths and weaknesses of the learners with disabilities to improve on their weak points. The adaptive behavior improves the learning abilities of learners with disabilities.

In conclusion, collaboration is advantageous for learners with learning disabilities. It enables them to get free appropriate education and offers special support to the learners. A strong Adaptive behavior improves the chances of good performance in class.
