The film, “The Razor’s Edge,” explores the values of materialism and spirituality. It is set in the World War I postwar period. The main character, Larry, defies his cultural norms and seeks out to find enlightenment. He sets out to different parts of the world including India where he seeks to find the true path to salvation. He works as a cook in a monastery in the Tibetan mountains. Under the guidance of an experienced lama, Larry almost finds enlightenment.

The film is an artistic impression in that it is created to ensure that it brings out emotional and psychological attachment of the audience. The storyline is created artistically and with an engaging plot. Larry’s experience in India falls in place an important part of the plot. It is here that Larry begins his journey of self-realization and self-actualization. The artistic impression of the film is added by the music played. The music in the film creates an emotional attachment with the audience. It becomes easier and better to understand Larry’s spiritual quest with the motion and music, than it would be when reading it from a book.

From the film, I learnt about Hinduism from the perspective of its members’ collectedness, calm and commitment to religion and self-seeking. The tour guide who takes Larry to the mountains does not need to brag about his riches and Larry finds that amusing. The lama and other people at the monastery dedicate their lives and hard work to spiritual life. The impressionism employed by the creators of the film brings out deep understanding of the film and without it, the film would have lacked the impact on the audience. As such, “The Razor’s Edge” is an effective example of a film that is a form of art.
