Starbucks is considered as the largest coffee retailer globally. The mission statement focuses on the human spirit, which means that it is a part of the community. This provision is based on the idea that the company has a number of stores in a considerable number of neighborhoods. According to Boone (2017), Starbucks makes a conscious effort to be a socially responsible company, which is a provision that influences it to conduct business ethically. The organization prides itself in the ethical manner of doing business through the community, environment, the promotion of wellness, sourcing and diversity. In this light, it is possible to consider the company as an entity that strives to live out to its mission statement through its commitment to social responsibility. Through the examination of Starbucks and the commitment it displays to social responsibility, it is possible to argue that the company is in a position of achieving profitable growth and augment shareholder value by conducting business ethically.

A considerable number of business analysts can agree that Starbucks is socially responsible. The company has earned its reputation by acting appropriately in the different phases of its business. The company’s mission focuses on inspiring and nurturing the human spirit (Starbucks Corporation, 2018). On the other hand, the commitment of the company to acting socially responsible is augmented with the fact that it has another mission statement that is dedicated on the environment. In this case, Starbucks is committed to displaying environmental leadership in all the facets of its business (Boone, 2017). The company makes a conscious effort that focuses on the fulfillment of its missions through being passionate about sourcing the world’s finest coffee beans, roasting the beans with care and improving the lives of the individuals growing the coffee beans.

The company’s website professes that it fulfills its environmental mission through the understanding of the environmental issues and sharing the information with the company’s partners. In this light, the company focuses on developing innovative as well as flexible solutions to the environmental issues. For this reason, the company strives to purchase, sell, and utilize products considered environmentally friendly, conversely recognizing the value of its environmental responsibility. On the other hand, the company measures and monitors the progress of every project, thus encouraging its partners to share the organization’s mission. Even though the mission is ambitious, the values of the company are highly publicized as displayed in the mission statements that adorn the walls of its stores, annual reports, and press releases.

The company demonstrates its values in a significant number of ways. For instance, Starbucks could be considered as one of the primary food and beverage chains that provides its customers with health benefits for its employees. A considerable number of employers in the industry do not give their part time employees with health coverage, which means that Starbucks can be regarded as a pioneer organization that focuses on treating its part-time employees appropriately. The company is unique in the sense that it creates progress reports as well as annual global responsibility objectives. These provisions enable the company to track its progress towards the achievement of its social responsibility goals. The progress reports could be referred to when indicating that the company is doing a good job in the achievement of its predetermined objectives.

According to mark Schwartz (2011), a corporation is obliged to steer clear from depriving individuals if it is in a position of providing assistance. In this case, if a corporation can afford helping individuals, it is obliged to do so. This reasoning brings into question the manner in which Starbucks fulfills its ethical and social responsibilities. One of the answers to this question is based on the idea that the company provides suitable benefits to its employees. It respects the rights of different individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation, their race, and their sex. On the other hand, the company provides its customers with a range of good quality and health products. The outreach programs that the company implements protect its suppliers from economic hardships. The programs are inclusive of the provision of loans that could ensure that the farmers do not succumb to financial difficulties (Boone, 2017). This example could be referred to when arguing that the company is socially responsible.

By all accounts, it is possible to consider Starbucks as an ethical company that focuses on fulfilling its social responsibilities. In this case, it enhances the value of the company’s brand in the food and beverage industry as well as the value of its shareholders. As a public company, the image of the Starbucks brand could be considered as one of the brands that promotes itself with definitive objectives of social responsibility. For this reason, the company has demonstrated that it can grow profitably while acting in an ethical manner and by acting socially responsible. The objectives are not mutually exclusive, which means that the company strives to develop a symbiotic relationship that ensures that everyone benefits from its business.
