After reading the article about working with Jeff Bezos, I would not want to work with him as my boss because of the adversarial, uncomfortable, and Darwinian struggle for survival organizational culture that he has instilled at Amazon. In my perspective, Bezos is not emotionally intelligent and is always driven by the need to achieve more. Although he has been a great leader, taking charge of Amazon to great heights, the article reveals that Bezos does not care much about his employees, one of the primary reasons I cannot want to work with him ( Harney & Dundon, 2020 ). Employees are among the most important assets that an organization can have. Therefore, I believe that any company should always work out ways to ensure a positive working environment is provided and that the entire workforce is comfortable for the desired outcomes. Therefore, although Amazon is one of the most successful companies, I believe it could be doing a lot better if Jeff Bezos could have used better leadership techniques.
For the other article about Zuckerberg's approach to advising Instagram after Acquisition, the exercised communication and leadership style is entirely different from Bezos's techniques. Zuckerberg lets Instagram creators operate self-reliantly while providing advice that they are allowed to choose whether to use it or not. Giving employees autonomy over their jobs has developed a sense of ownership among the workforce alongside an effective and efficient organizational culture. As a leader, Zuckerberg is not micromanaging his employees, one of the factors that can make me want to work for him ( Bahcecik, Akay & Akdemir, 2019 ). I enjoy working in an environment where the boss allows employees to explore their abilities, make mistakes, and corrections to get better, which makes Zuckerberg the right leader for my style. The effectiveness of his leadership styles is evident after Zuckerberg taking two giant social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram, and making it possible for the two teams to work as collaborators and not competitors.
