The various levels of management in an organization may be involved in a number of actions that can help increase employees’ motivation to operate safely. The first step involves creating a corporate safety culture within the organization. The culture of safety amongst employees should be emphasized right from the time of their interviews and continually assessed upon being employed (Snell et al., 2015). New employees should be informed of the centrality of safety in the organization’s values. Orientation programs may be used to educate new employees on the safety practices and procedures that they should observe. These trainings would motivate the employees to observe safety regulations within the workplace.
Proactive safety programs are also an important step that may be used to increase employees’ motivation to operate safely. Different forms of media including lectures, audiovisual content, games amongst others may be used to create safety awareness amongst employees (Snell et al., 2015). Proactive training sessions help employees to identify safety problems before their occurrence.

The other action that may be used by the management to motivate employees to operate safely is seeking their active involvement in the design and implementation of safety programs. According to Snell et al. (2015), involvement of employees in safety programs may cover areas such as setting the company safety standards, safety training programs, and creation of safety incentives amongst others. The involvement of employees in an organization’s safety programs presents two main benefits. First, it accords the employees the opportunity to provide valuable ideas towards safety programs. Secondly, it creates a sense of ownership of the developed programs amongst the employees. The sense of ownership facilitates quick adoption of the instituted programs by the employees.
