Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple and Pixar animation studio delivers a commencement speech in the video to the graduating class of Stanford University. His speech is based on his life experience which he categorizes into three: connecting dots, love and life, and finally death. He narrates how he was adopted by a mother who never graduated from college and a father who never graduated from high school. His parents promised his biological mother that they would take him to college (Jobs, 2018). He chose an expensive college but had no idea what to do with his life so he dropped out and started attending a calligraphy class, which led to invention of the first computer with typography(Macintosh computers).
In his second story of love and life Steve Jobs explains how his passion for what he loved at a young age led to the creation of Apple and in ten years turned it into a multibillion dollar company. At thirty years, he was fired from his own company but never gave up and decided to start over again. It was his best decision because he invented Next and Pixar which partnered with Apple and elevated him to the helm again (Jobs, 2018). What Jobs tries to explain is that the only way to great work is to love what you do, and if one has not discovered his or her passion, they should not settle.

The last part of his speech is about death. He was diagnosed with a rare form of pancreatic cancer which the doctors said was incurable and that he only had some few months to live. He lived each day as if it was his last doing what he loved most. Later on the doctors found out it was a minor tumor which was curable by surgery. After surgery he was cancer free. Steve Jobs’ speech is appropriate to graduates who ought to explore their potential and bring change to the society and the world at large.
