According to my understanding of the stages of faith that a person undergoes, the stages presented in the James Fowler’s “Stages of Faith” are true because they present an actual observations and experiences I have undergone in my faith. In most cases, young children follow the beliefs of their parents and this shows the relevance of the first stage of faith of intuitiveness. The second stage is also relevant in the development of faith because it supports the observation where children have been able to develop mythical beliefs by being obedient to authorities. I have also experienced as well as observed a number of incidents where a person develops synthetic conformist attitude by being loyal to a particular faith. My current faith is based on the need to follow the doctrines of a particular belief and examining its role in promoting my religious needs.
The fourth stage of James Fowler’s “Stages of Faith, is also relevant in my view of stages of development of faith because I have observed a number of people who have developed individualized reflection of faith. They have achieved this objective by developing their own religious perspectives and even religious organizations for the purpose of presenting a different perspective regarding religion or belief in God in a manner that is critical to the previous beliefs. The stage of conjunctive faith has been common among some religious groups and individuals who have opted to listen to perspectives of others regarding their support for particular religious beliefs. Finally, I have not observed the sixth stage of universalizing faith because most people in my socialization environment have not been able to achieve this stage of faith. However, I have read and heard about those who have tried to establish the universal values, unconditional love, and justice by learning about the roles of Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Theresa as those who have been instrumental in the achievement of spiritual development.
