It should be alarming that the Syrian conflict has caused the death of more than 360,000 people. Consequently, it is necessary to have a power-sharing deal in Syria between the groups involved in conflict. Prolonging the conflict or sustained use of force will only make Syria degenerate into a state akin to modern Iraq. If the government refuses to negotiate, international sanctions should be applied by all the key players in the conflict, especially Russia and the United States. Similarly, if the rebel groups shun away talks, everything should be done to cut their supplies, especially weapons, food, and funds. Evidently, this conflict can be stopped if Russia and the United States think about the people, and compel the opposing sides to reach a truce.
