The article, “Use of a modified chaining procedure with textual prompts to establish intraverbal storytelling,” by Valentino et al., (2015) investigates the effectiveness of using the novel procedure in conjunction with the modified chaining procedure and textual approach to telling stories thus measuring the effectiveness of the process. There was also the use of visual prompts and rule statements to determine the effectiveness of the process in changing the behavior of the subjects. The subjects in the research group were boys diagnosed with autism. For the effectiveness of the research, the target population varied in age ranging from 4 to 8 years of age. All the participants had attended an applied behavior analysis program. The participants were required to dictate stories represented by a teacher as well as retelling stories told in class. All the sessions were described in class in the presence of teachers, and they measured the effectiveness of the process by using segments for each page. The results indicated that when the story s told, and the response targeted only one segment targeted, there appeared correct response out of that one segment targeted. The researchers concluded that modified chaining procedure in combination with echoic and textual teaching prompts remained effective in teaching storytelling to the three boys with autism.

The article, “Treatment of Escape-Maintained Challenging Behavior Using Chained Schedules” by DeSouza et al., (2016) focuses on investigating the effectiveness of chained schedule thinning procedure in changing the behavior for individuals with escape-maintained problem behavior. In an attempt of making the research methodology effective, the author compares the process with and without alternative methods in the method. The research targeted a population with two individuals with escape-maintained behavior. In this case, the authors used to escape only and escape to tangibles. The treatment procedure applied single subject in alternating treatment intervention mechanism. The results indicate that all four applications with the escape to tangible treatment ere successful. However, the escape only procedure was not successful. The results indicated that positive plus negative treatment is capable of decreasing destructive behavior as well as increasing the rate of compliance.
