Teacher coaching and development process is a significant step towards ensuring that teachers are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties. Whereas the teaching plan is necessary, there is a need to have a coach who can revise a teachers plan to verify its components and if it meets the required expectations. Thus, an inquiry into teaching and learning through observation pre-conference, assessment of teaching and learning through classroom observation and post-observation conversation are delved into by utilizing the available videos as case studies.
Inquiry into Teaching and Learning: Observation Pre-conference
From the conference, I can note the two significant parts that are different from my experience as a teacher. Firstly, the coach is interested in the resources employed from preparation to the actual lessons. Secondly, the coach is concerned about the background of the lesson plan and how the teacher will integrate the students to understand. On the other hand, the teacher is fully aware of the coach’s concern and provides quality analysis of the same. These aspects are different from mine because, in some instances, I usually lack enough analysis of the background of my lesson plans.

The coach asked about what the teacher would tape to take the knowledge of the lesson further. In attempts to obtain feedback from the coach, the teacher said she had done as per her abilities but she was not sure if it was enough. Secondly, the coach asked if they had done that kind of writing before, the teacher replied that she was not sure how her product will be at the end, but they had done similar writing, even borrowing some materials from the English class.
According to the teacher’s response, she is fully prepared to take the lesson as suggested by her lesson plan. This is evident through her explanation of the resources that she will use, including articles and the strategies she will employ to ensure that she incorporates the ideas of all students.
Assessment of Teaching and Learning: Classroom Observation
According to the video, I would positively recommend the efforts of the teacher especially in making sure that her teaching plan goes as planned. This is evident because she includes all the abilities and the students. For instance, she randomly asks her students what they learned from the previous lessons, to ensure that they still remember what they learned. She asks her students what they said about certain signs, and the students happily reply as prove of remembering.
My constructive feedback about the general lesson would be acknowledging the efforts of the teacher. However, there is a need for her to ensure that all students are learning at the same pace. This is because, from the video, some students seem to have been left back when it comes to joining the drawings. She has to employ effective ways that she will use to ensure that every student understands what she is teaching.
Assessment of Teaching and Learning: Post-conference Conversation
The opening tone of the coach is very accommodative and suggestively ready to engage the teacher where possible. I noticed how she introduced her comments with rather welcoming comments in terms of how the teacher has been applying her lesson plans.
By using specific evidence to the concerns of the teacher, the coach can open up more ways that can facilitate the understanding of the teacher about a certain matter. Thus the discussion can cover many questions as possible concerning the teacher’s lesson plans.
The coach’s feedbacks are very effective for the questions of the teacher. This is because she widely explains her feedbacks with the use of specific evidence. In my opinion, the coach was very effective in validating the strengths of the lesson, because the teacher had employed effective strategies that would help him in executing the lesson plans and ensuring that all students are intellectually involved.
The aspect of framing an answer in the form of a question by the coach is very effective in ensuring that the teacher notices the area that requires refinement. This is because the coach challenges the teacher to weigh his plans with the required standards. Thus, the teacher can provide effective strategies that he will employ to achieve his objectives.
