The article focuses on technologies that seem to work well in reducing patient overstays in healthcare facilities while ensuring to reduce costs incurred by these facilities. The article focuses on the Long Island Health Network that comprises of seven hospital systems in the state of New York ( Masiulis et al., 2018) . Some of the implemented strategies to reduce hospital overstays included providing more discharge services on weekends, reducing delays in discharge plans and in the authorization of home care. The researchers also recommended for the limit in outpatient testing during inpatient stays ( Masiulis et al., 2018) . A combination of these strategies and many others seemed to reduce the rates of unnecessary overstays in the facilities under focus. Implementation of the methods would work well for other healthcare facilities as their outcomes were witnessed in the Long Island Health Network.

Tchatchoua (2018) further recognizes that despite its high costs, the United States healthcare system is not as efficient in quality healthcare provision when compared to the UK. There needs to be other strategies adopted by healthcare facilities and professionals to ensure that quality care is improved. Apart from those adopted by the Long Island Health Network, others include maintaining accurate health information and records and implementing such information and these are present in other health care facilities across the US. Cosgrove et al. (2013) recognize that CEOs also play critical role in helping improve patient satisfaction and thus reduce costs incurred by their health care facilities. A holistic strategy to adopt would be patient centered care which encompasses numerous other measures that would ensure overall patient satisfaction and improved healing rates. It is an indication that health care professional and facilities have the role of improving current levels of quality care to help reduce costs. It calls for the adoption of varied strategies and health care environments are unique and the strategy that works for one may not work for the other.
