There are various terms that are utilized in the back up industry. One of the terminology used is the backup policy which outlines the rules and regulations that should be adhered to by the employees of a certain company (Herrmann, 2015). The other term that is applied in the industry is the backup media. The media refers to the place where the data is stored for future retrieval and could be in the form of disk or a tape (Herrmann, 2015). Backup client is the other term that is used and it refers to the set of data that should be stored for the aim of recovery in future (Herrmann, 2015). The server which stores all the information of an organization is the backup client.
The other terminology that is used is the backup server which is a system that host the backup application. The backup server is connected to the backup client through a network connection and, hence, it is the role of an entity’s IT department to safeguard the link to deter any potential attack (Herrmann, 2015). The other term that is utilized is the backup application and it refers to a set of software used to process data obtained from the client. The other terms that are used in the backup industry are offsite and onsite. Onsite refers to a copy of the backup that is required to restore minor loss of data. Offsite is a copy of the backup that is used in the case of recovering from a disaster (Herrmann, 2015). Hence, the offsite copy is more essential compared to the onsite regarding the information that is stored.
