Unethical Business Summary
Unethical business is employing values and tactics which are morally wrong and unacceptable in business mostly as a way to increase revenue and tackling competition. According to Pocock (2018), widespread killing and exploiting other creatures as a sport is an undesirable practice as it does not consider the need for all aspects of the ecosystem in ensuring ecological balance. Pocock also describes the endangered species such as the bluefin whales which are brutally murdered by harpooning for their oil. Destructive fishing techniques and practices such as trawling clear ocean floors destroying ecosystems and habitats. She also describes engaging of domestic animals such as dogs and poultry and denying them access to sunlight while feeding them on certain food as an unethical business practice. Other unethical practices are killing cats for their skins in safaris, rhinoceroses for their horns which are used in drug manufacture e.g. Viagra, which is commonly used for potency and killing elephants for their tusks which are majorly used as ornaments. The above practices have led to the extinction of specific animals while others are on the verge of extinction e.g. only six white rhinos subsist. Various practices such as deforestation, increased use of fossil fuels, over-cultivation and over-farming have led to global warming resulting in increased famines and catastrophes. Pocock attributes the above effects to lack of political interventions to curb the unethical practices, lack of intelligence, decency, and sense of responsibility. She proposes working together to bring back peace and for a common benefit as the only solution to theses dilapidated unethical business ideas and practices.
Discussion
The article by Pocock is in alignment to contemporary thinking on business ethics and values. Business reputation is a major ethic to be considered in every field of business as if forms the framework of the potential market and the overall future of the business idea. According to the article, the Iceland millionaire who runs the bluefin whale business lacks reputation. He benefits and profiteers on brutally killing innocent creatures. Lack of responsibility is manifested by the ignorance depicted by world leaders as they do not pay attention or react to the widespread culture of unethical business practices. The leaders watch from afar as their countries gain revenue from such habits in the name of business and tourism. Some business activities and practices lack acceptability, sustainability, and desirability a good example being the killing of elephants just to make ornaments (Crane & Mattens, 2016, p.258). Lastly, most of the practices covered in the article lack fairness and total regard for life.

Information from the article is crucial in my field of Strategic Management and Business Policy and overall business management. The article provides first-hand data on accounts that breach the ethics code of business hence demanding interventions from business policy department. In business policy, the responsibilities of senior managers are to ensure the organization's work is in accordance to set objectives and maintains a healthy relationship with the management. Strategic management involves setting objectives based on available resources and in alignment with ethic and values in developing strategic plans and implementation. Additionally, strategic management employs personal qualities such as integrity, responsibility, and respect which are lacking in the accounts of an unethical business article by Pocock Lesley.
The article aligns with my ethical view of responsibility, respect for life, employing conservative measures and strategies in business for a long-term effect while not profiting from destructive ideas and practices. My view of ethics is based on building a strong and rigid reputation characterized by environmental friendly objectives, ideas, and business practices. To ensure the viability of all life, unethical business practices should be discontinued and legal measures, such as creating policies, explored and strategically implemented to ensure efficient and responsible business ethics (Harvey 2018) Therefore, understanding business ethics and ensuring implementation of morally acceptable and ecological values should be mandatory and self-cultivated in business management.
